NFL star Travis Kelce headed to Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie. According to Deadline, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has been cast in Murphy's upcoming FX horror series where he will appear opposite Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville. The series has just begun production and is expected to debut this fall on FX, right around the time the football season picks up. No details about Kelce's role in the series have been released.

For Kelce, this would be his first major foray into acting. He has previously hosted Saturday Night Live and appeared in a cameo during SNL's NFL-Taylor Swift sketch last fall -- Kelce is notably dating Swift and their relationship was a major topic of discussion during the NFL season. Kelce has previously had experience with unscripted television, including a reality dating series Catching Kelce in 2016, and more recently signed on to host Amazon's Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity. He is also the executive producer of the indie film, My Dead Friend Zoe.

What is Grotesquerie About?

Details about Grotesquerie are few, though Murphy shared a video announcing the cast of the upcoming series earlier this year. The video featured a voiceover from Nash-Betts' character, teasing that "something's happening around us, and nobody sees it but me."

"I don't know when it started, I can't put my finger on it, but it's different now," Nash-Betts' character says in the video. "There's been a shift, like something's opening up in the world - a kind of hole that descends into a nothingness. You say, 'Well, hon, evil has always existed,' that 'things are getting better, there's never been a better time to be alive!' ... it's not getting better! Something's happening around us, and nobody sees it but me."

Niecy Nash-Betts Confirmed Kelce's Casting on Instagram

On Instagram, Nash-Betts shared a video from the set of Grotesquerie revealing Kelce. In the video Nash-Betts teases "Guys, guess who I am working with on Grotesquerie?" before panning to Kelce who chimes in with "Jumping into new territory with Niecy!"

"This is what happens when WINNERS link up!! @killatrav Welcome to Grotesquerie," she captioned the video. Kelce himself also shared the video as an Instagram Story. You can check the post out for yourself here.

The Crow 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray Review https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-crow-4k-review-30th-anniversary-paramount-brandon-lee/ Wed, 08 May 2024 03:44:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 8063abab-0a92-4ac5-b920-ec58570c0542

A true cult classic turns 30 this year, and Paramount has gone all-out on a new physical release to celebrate the occasion. The Crow, Brandon Lee's grunge-noir comic adaptation, has been beloved by movie fans for three decades, and that love is finally being rewarded with a brand new 4K restoration.

Paramount released The Crow 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray on Tuesday, delivering a long-awaited restoration for a unique film that has desperately needed it. Fans will be happy to learn that the team behind this restoration knocked it out of the park. Let's break it down, shall we?

The Movie

The Crow is the definition of a cult classic film. It was made for a small budget in 1994 and was appealing to a pretty niche audience, but that appeal has widened quite a bit over the last 30 years. The Alex Proyas film, based on James O'Barr's comic series, seems to get more and more love as time goes on. Whether people have a connection to the film from their adolescence or see it as a beautiful snapshot of the grunge era, folks can't get enough of The Crow. Why else has Hollywood been dead-set on rebooting the property?

the-crow-ultra-hd-4k-featurette-brandon-lee.jpg
(Photo: Paramount)

The story at the center of The Crow is a bittersweet one, made even more gut-wrenching by the real-life tragedy that took place on set. Star Brandon Lee, who was on the cusp of a massive film career, was killed by an gun-related accident during a take. His performance as a resurrected rocker with thirst for revenge is exceptional, and his legacy will forever be tied to the film's.

The Crow isn't for everybody, but those who like it absolutely love it. There was never anything quite like it prior to 1994, and there certainly hasn't been anything like it since.

The Disc (and Steelbook)

The Crow's 30th anniversary release is a native 4K transfer in 2160p with a Dolby Vision/HDR10 presentation and a DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track. It wouldn't take a lot for this release to become the best The Crow has ever looked, considering the frustrating presentations on the DVD and Blu-rays, but this new disc from Paramount really goes above and beyond expectations to create something special.

Remastering The Crow is a tricky thing because of the style of the film itself. This is an incredibly dark, grungy movie made on a minimal budget. The style of the city and the noir elements of the story keep most of the film in the shadows. You can only brighten things up so much before you begin taking away from the intentions of the filmmakers and delivering something that isn't honest to what The Crow should be. This 4K restoration does an exceptional job at giving life and depths to the blacks and darker colors. The lights themselves get brightened instead, creating a contrast with those deeper colors that allows you to see the images a lot more clearly without sacrificing the noir style.

With those choices, every detail in The Crow is made finer and more pronounced. From the opening fly through the model city to the close-ups of Eric Draven in the shadows, you can see everything more clearly and more well defined than ever before. What's even more impressive is that The Crow maintains a natural grain structure throughout. The clarity and lighting fixes didn't come at the cost of looking overly smooth or scrubbed.

the-crow-1231277.jpg
(Photo: Paramount)

Part of what makes The Crow such a lasting film for so many is that the filmmakers and design team never wavered from the unique vision they had when they set out to make it. The low budget, grunge aura of the film is part of its charm, and this restoration allows that to be on full display. The flyover scenes and rooftop chases only make the fact that the city is a model with VFX fires layered on top all the more obvious, but that just adds to its beauty. It feels like this disc came out of a time capsule, allowing fans to watch The Crow exactly as it was intended for the first time since 1994.

If you're curious just how big a difference this 4K release is compared to the previous Blu-ray, In Search of Physical Media over on YouTube put together some side-by-side screenshots to compare the two discs. The difference is night and day.

As far as the audio goes, the track was the strength of previous releases. It remains strong with this 30th Anniversary print. The dialogue is crisp and clean, and the soundtrack hits exactly as hard as it needs to.

Bonus points to the The Crow's 30th presentation for a phenomenal steelbook. The outer slipcover shows the outline of a crow with Brandon Lee's face shining through. Pulling the cover off reveals the full picture of Lee as Eric Draven. There's some great artwork featured on the back and inside the steelbook as well.

The Features

The Crow 30th Anniversary 4K comes with quite a few special features, most of which are legacy features carried over from previous releases. Despite the fact that diehard fans may have seen a lot of these before, they're great features to keep around for this release. The disc includes not one, but two different feature commentary tracks -- one from director Alex Proyas, the other from producer Jeff Most and writer John Shirley.

The two new features one the disc are an interview with late producer Edward R. Pressman from 2021 and a set of featurettes about the design process behind the film. The interview with Pressman is a decent addition but the Designing The Crow trio is far and away the highlight of the special features. All three videos in the featurette focus on an in-depth, retrospective interview with production designer Alex McDowell. Throughout the videos, McDowell gets into the nitty gritty of what it took to make The Crow look as memorable as it does. And unlike a lot of other featurettes on these home releases, the McDowell interview doesn't feel like a puff piece about the film itself. He really takes a dive into the process of designing sets and offers a ton of insight into how The Crow got made. It's definitely worth your time.

You can check out the full list of special features on the disc below.

  • Shadows & Pain: Designing The Crow - NEW!
    • Angels All Fire: Birth of the Legend
    • On Hallowed Ground: The Outer Realm
    • Twisted Wreckage: The Inside Spaces
  • Sideshow Collectibles: An Interview with Edward R. Pressman - NEW TO DISC!
  • Audio Commentary with Director Alex Proyas
  • Audio Commentary by Producer Jeff Most and Screenwriter John Shirley
  • Behind the Scenes Featurette
  • A Profile on James O'Barr
  • Extended Scenes:
    • The Arcade Bombing
    • The Funboy Fight
    • The Shootout at Top Dollar's
  • Deleted Footage Montage
  • Trailer

The Verdict

The Crow is probably my favorite 4K disc of the year so far. If you're a fan of this movie, it is without question a must-own release. If you can get your hands on the steelbook that's even better, but those were already selling out at some stores shortly after preorders began.

If you're only moderately into The Crow, or you've never seen it but have a love for great physical media, this release is still worth picking up. This had to be a difficult restoration, and to pull it off as well as they did is certainly an accomplishment.

The Crow 30th Anniversary 4K is now available to purchase in stores. A copy was provided for the purposes of this review.

Wednesday Season 2 Begins Filming, Jenna Ortega Shares Photo From Set https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/wednesday-season-2-begins-filming-jenna-ortega-photo-set/ Tue, 07 May 2024 20:38:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson fd4ccb62-f1a2-4eb0-9999-fb7eefc412e9

We're one step closer to returning to Nevermore Academy. On Tuesday, Netflix confirmed that the sophomore season of Wednesday has officially begun production. The streaming service shared a teaser video announcing the news, as well as new and returning cast members for the new season. Series star Jenna Ortega also shared a behind-the-scenes photo for Wednesday Season 2. The series, which is built on the lore of The Addams Family, has become one of Netflix's biggest juggernauts in recent memory, dominating the streaming service's charts and breaking records in the process.

The announcement video from Netflix confirms that the cast of Wednesday Season 2 will include Ortega, Steve Buscemi, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Joanna Lumley, Christopher Lloyd, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Fred Armisen, Thandiwe Newton, Victor Dorobantu, Billie Piper, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Isaac Ordonez, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Frances O'Connor, Joonas Suotamo, Jamie McShane and more. A recent report has indicated that Percy Hynes White, who drew controversy in 2023 after being accused of sexual abuse, will not be returning as Xavier Thorpe.

What Will Wednesday Season 2 Be About?

Plot details have yet to be revealed for Wednesday's sophomore season, although showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have teased that they have a significant long-term plan for future seasons of the show.

"For us, it's always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it's looking at multiple seasons, ideally," Gough and Millar explained in an interview last year. "That's never expected, but that's the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons' worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change. Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for. So you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve, but we certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons."

Is Tim Burton Involved With Wednesday Season 2?

Season 1 of Wednesday was partially directed by Tim Burton, with the beloved horror director helming four episodes of the show's eight-episode season. In a 2023 interview with BFI, Burton promised that even though Wednesday Season 2 was on hold amid the Hollywood strikes, he will be involved with the sophomore season in some manner.

"I mentally put stuff on hold until all the strikes are over," Burton said at the time. "I can edit and do things I can do, but until the veil is lifted, then things get back into it. But yeah, I'll be involved in some [way]. I'm not quite sure, because everything has stopped at the moment."

Friday the 13th Prequel Series Crystal Lake Still in Development, Despite Cancellation Reports https://comicbook.com/horror/news/friday-13th-tv-show-crystal-lake-still-development-a24-peacock/ Tue, 07 May 2024 19:48:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 665ee8f1-300f-4e54-ad60-56d0d628c694

Fans of the beloved Friday the 13th slasher series have been without a Jason Voorhees movie for 15 years, and that stretch will continue into the foreseeable future. There has been a glimmer of hope for the franchise's immediate future, however, as Peacock and A24 have been developing a Jason-less prequel series called Crystal Lake. That show, which comes from executive producer Bryan Fuller and was announced back in 2022, has been the subject of some conflicting reports over the last couple of days.

Chatter surfaced on Monday night that A24 had pulled the plug on Crystal Lake, effectively cancelling the series while it was still in development. According to Bloody Disgusting, that's not actually the case.

A report from Bloody Disgusting on Tuesday claims Crystal Lake is still very much in development. The site claims that sources indicate A24 has not axed the project and confirm that it is still moving forward, but there are some changes and retooling happening behind the scenes. There is no concrete information regarding those changes at this time.

Peacock made a big commitment to Crystal Lake back in 2022 when the show was first announced. The NBCUniversal streaming service won a bidding war for the property by making a substantial financial commitment, ordering it directly to series and agreeing to a hefty penalty if the show didn't get a second season. So Crystal Lake received what is essentially a two-season order, without even casting stars or rolling cameras.

Hannibal's Bryan Fuller was set to serve as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer on the series, but there's no telling if his involvement could be part of the behind-the-scenes shakeup Bloody Disgusting alluded to. When the series was first ordered, Fuller spoke to Fangoria about bringing it to life at Peacock.

"One of the things that is super exciting and one of the many reasons that we went with Peacock is that they blew every other competitor out of the water," Fuller said. "There was a bidding war on this, and they came in strong and gave us a full-season commitment with a huge penalty if we don't do a second season. So it's kind of a two-season commitment, but really just the first-season commitment. We're going to have roughly five times the per-episode budget that we had on Hannibal."

"It will absolutely be recognizable for the hardcore Friday the 13th fans, but will also have an appeal to people who are simply interested in top-shelf TV storytelling," he added.

Dark Matter Author Reveals Wayward Pines TV Series Taught Him What He Didn't Want for New Show https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/dark-matter-author-reveals-wayward-pines-tv-series-taught-him-what-he-didnt-want-for-new-show/ Tue, 07 May 2024 17:48:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 8319ee6e-47a4-4346-bf32-bf0996d475f4

It's been a while since Wayward Pines was on the air. The series, adapted from Blake Crouch's novels, featured work by some seriously talented people, and had a critically-acclaimed first season that seemed to fizzle immediately once it came back from its hiatus. Speaking with ComicBook about Dark Matter, the latest adaptation of his writing, Crouch said that the experiences on Wayward Pines helped him figure out what he wants and what he doesn't want when adapting his own writing for the screen.

And, yeah -- he's a little salty about that second season, too.

"Wayward Pines was the first time I'd ever walked onto a film set. I was a starry-eyed, 32, and looking at the first thing of mine being adapted. I thought it was goign to be amazing and great, and a lot of it was," Crouch told ComicBook. "Filmmaking can be tumultuous and there's a lot of that there. It was an extreme scenario. I'm super proud of season 1 of Wayward Pines. We should have stopped there....But it taught me so much. It was like, filmmaking is a full-contact sport and I was lucky to be let in and actually see how the sausage gets made, and that's not something that a lot of novelists are made privy to. It took me a while to recover from that and decide, 'Do I want to have a part of that in something of mine?' And finally when the opportunity for Dark Matter came up, I decided yeah I do, but I've also learned a lot from it. I know the things I don't want, and I know the things I do want to shoot for."

He added that while he has some regrets about the way Wayward Pines went, he seems to see it as a net positive experience -- or at least one where he and others learned a lot.

"A lot of friends -- the Duffer Brothers came up on Wayward Pines, I came up on Wayward Pines, a lot of directors there," Crouch said. "We call it 'Wayward Pines University,' because that's where a lot of us were thrown into this crazy, amazing situation, and we learned, and took things from it that allowed us to go to the next step. A lot of people came out of Wayward Pines and have gone on to do amazing things."

Below, you can check out the official synopsis for Dark Matter:

Jason Dessen is abducted into an alternate version of his life; to get back to his true family, he embarks on a harrowing journey to save them from the most terrifying foe imaginable: himself; based on Blake Crouch's best-selling book.

Dark Matter premieres globally with the first two episodes on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 followed by one new episode weekly through June 26, 2024.

47 Meters Down 3 Confirmed to Be in the Works https://comicbook.com/movies/news/47-meters-down-3-the-wreck-filming-release-date/ Tue, 07 May 2024 16:06:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 5e949325-9b10-4bfd-a6d2-5d2a61574261

47 Meters Down 3 is in the works - and it already has its official title.

47 Meters Down: The Wreck will bring back series creator Johannes Roberts and 47 Meters Down 1 & 2 screenwriter Ernest Riera as co-writers on the threequel. Filmmaker Patrick Lusser (Dracula 2000, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Drive Angry) will direct. Franchise producer Byron Allen of Allen Media Group Motion Pictures (AMGMP) will produce alongside James Harris and Mark Lane's Tea Shop Productions. Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Chris Charalambous and Matthew Signer will serve as executive producers.

According to Deadline, 47 Meters Down: The Wreck will "follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba diving in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. But soon after their descent, their master diver has an accident leaving them alone and unprotected inside the labyrinth of the wreck. As tensions rise and oxygen dwindles, the pair must use their newfound bond to escape the wreck and the relentless barrage of bloodthirsty great white sharks."

"47 Meters Down: The Wreck is the perfect continuation of our shark-filled franchise," said Byron Allen in a statement, "This film will once again have moviegoers terrified and on the edge of their seats."

"We can't wait for audiences to be trapped underwater with us again," added Johannes Roberts. "47 Meters Down: The Wreck is going to be the biggest, most-intense film of this franchise."

What Is 47 Meters Down About?

47-meters-down-movies-explained.jpg
(Photo: Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures)

The 47 Meters Down series is a horror movie franchise the follows unlucky divers that end up in dire survival situations.

The first film, 47 Meters Down (2017) was a simple concept made on a $5.3 million budget. It told the story of two sisters who go shark watching in Mexico, only for their diving cage to get trapped 47 meters down on the ocean floor. The film made $62.6M of that minor budget, and its dark twist ending made it a cult-hit with many horror fans.

47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019) got its budget doubled to a modest figure of $12M, and expanded its premise with a bigger cast and setting: a group of divers getting trapped undersea in some sunken Mayan city ruins, pursued by hungry sharks. It made $47.6M, which was less than its predecessor - but admittedly the sequel didn't have the kind of twist that made the first film a cult hit.

47 Meters Down: The Wreck is set to go into production this fall.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game – First Impressions from Hands-On Preview https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/killer-klowns-from-outer-space-the-game-preview/ Tue, 07 May 2024 15:14:00 +0000 Hannah Adkins e8916ac6-858d-432d-b618-c3e3d2f68e64

ComicBook was invited to preview the upcoming Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, and while I'm generally not the target audience for multiplayer games like this, I have to say I had a really great time in my two preview rounds, and I'm honestly looking forward to playing the game's full release and checking out the other maps it has to offer. It's as stylized and campy as you would hope a Killer Klowns video game would be, the maps are impressive, and the gameplay is perfectly straightforward and intuitive, so you don't have to spend too long figuring out how to play before you can be bashing human or Klown brains in.

As mentioned, I was able to play two rounds on this game, so I played as both a Klown and a Human. If you're on the Klown side you're on a team of three with the ability to spawn minions to help you out, and if you're a human you're on a team of seven. The objectives are as you'd expect in a horror game - the Klowns are trying to kill humans and harvest their organs, the humans are trying to...not have that happen, of course. Your ultimate goal as a human is to escape, and you've got multiple opportunities to do so throughout the 15-minute round, if you're able to survive being harvested.

I had a lot of fun with both rounds - it's super serotonin inducing to bash humans with a hammer as a Klown, but Human is great for me personally because it involves a lot of stealth, which is always my preferred method of handling combat. There are noticeable gameplay differences between the two - Klowns move much slower (thanks, big shoes), humans are nowhere near as strong. Klowns can fast travel around the map, Humans cannot. Humans die "permanently" (you can be revived one time, but you're in observation mode ((playing a mini game to get an item just in case you are revived)) until then, Klowns respawn if a human is lucky enough to take them out. The escape routes you're seeking as humans seem really fun and sometimes force you to make tough (and harsh) choices.

I really enjoyed the overall design for the game, particularly for the user interface which is just as fun and campy as you'd hope (and pretty much expect) something based on an 80s movie about space clowns to be. Throwing caution to the wind too often for a game where the stakes are pretty high, I was particularly enjoying the details in the map I explored - they're well designed explored the carnival. Apart from visuals the sound is great as well - sound effects while playing as a Klown were so fun, and I'm a big fan of the cotton candy gun sounds.

In my preview session the developer team continually referred to the game as the "best space clown game ever made," and while that's because this is (the only one ever made?), its lack of competition doesn't mean it's any less impressive. I can easily see myself convincing nine of my friends to play a few rounds of this game, and that's only after a two round preview!

Wednesday Season 2 Drops Percy Hynes White From Cast https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/wednesday-drops-percy-hynes-white-announces-season-2-cast/ Tue, 07 May 2024 14:57:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 9706c62b-418b-4a08-997f-7f5bc8b3e531

Wednesday is set to begin production on its long-awaited second season this week, and ahead of the start of principal photography, producers have revealed the full cast. In addition to some new faces joining the Addams Family spinoff this season, there are at least three characters -- Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White), Yoko Tanaka (Naomi J. Ogawa), and Sheriff Galpin (Jamie McShane) -- that will no longer be series regulars. While those characters all made it out of the bloody first season in one piece, their stories seemingly won't be continuing, or at least will be significantly reduced in the second season.

According to Variety, only McShane is currently scheduled to reprise his role -- presumably to wrap up his season one story arc, which ended with the revelation that his son Tyler (Hunter Doohan) was the murderous monster known as the Hyde. Percy Hynes White's departure is likely the most surprising for viewers, since his character was seemingly being set up to have a bigger relationship with Wednesday going forward.

In 2023, online allegations of sexual abuse surfaced against Hynes White. The reports first emerged in January of last year, and within a few months, the actors publicly denied all charges, calling them "a campaign of misinformation" last June. By September, rumors were circulating that his character had been written out of the show.

Even before those rumors emerged, Ortega -- who is stepping into a producer role this season -- had said that Wednesday season 2 would be backing away from the love story to lean more into horror and macabre elements.

"We've decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more," Ortega said. "Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don't want to take yourself too seriously."

Ogawa's character had the least to do in the first season, so it's little surprise she isn't returning as a regular -- although the Variety story kind of makes it sound like it was the actress's choice to move on, rather than waiting around to see if they found something for her to do.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzm?n, and Isaac Ordonez (who play Morticia, Gomez, and Puglsey Addams) will be promoted to series regulars, as will Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who played Deputy Sheriff Ritchie Santiago. Returning stars include Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer. Fred Armisen will return, too, in spite of presumably being busy working on his own Uncle Fester spinoff.

The first season of Wednesday is streaming on Netflix.

MaXXXine Director Offers Update on Possible Fourth Film in X Series https://comicbook.com/horror/news/maxxxine-sequel-plans-future-ti-west-mia-foth-x-pearl-franchise/ Mon, 06 May 2024 22:49:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 565fce32-0fc3-415f-b271-239fd13ec5c6

Horror fans were both shocked and thrilled when filmmaker Ti West revealed at the world premiere of X that he had secretly filmed the prequel Pearl, and while the announcement of a third film, MaXXXine, seemed more like a given, fans were no less excited to hear about the follow-up. With MaXXXine hitting theaters this summer, fans have wondered if that narrative will continue in some capacity, and while West has confirmed that he might have found a way to further expand this compelling world of characters, he offers fans the disclaimer that any continuation of the concept will likely be something that deviates from fan expectation. MaXXXine lands in theaters on July 5th.

"I do have one idea that plays into these movies that could maybe happen," West confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. "I don't know if it'll be next. It might be. We'll see." He also confirmed that MaXXXine "will probably be the end of the Maxine era."

In X, a group of friends got together to make an adult movie at a Texas farmhouse they rented, only for the farm's owners to kill them off, leaving only Maxine to survive. The prequel Pearl explored the murderous origins of the Texas killers, namely the young Pearl, with Mia Goth playing both Maxine and Pearl.

MaXXXine is described, "In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past." Joining Goth are Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.

West previously delivered fan-favorite horror movies The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, and The Sacrament, with these latest films marking his first sequels. The filmmaker went on to express how, once he wraps MaXXXine, he will likely take some time to figure out what project could be next, whether it's an entirely original experience or an unconventional continuation of this world.

"Then hopefully I can just put this in a box under the bed, take a breath, and figure out what's next," West pointed out. "I'll say that, if there's more to be done in this X franchise, it's certainly not what people are expecting it to be. It's not just picking up again a few years later and whatever. It's different in the way that Pearl was an unexpected departure. It's another unexpected departure."

MaXXXine lands in theaters on July 5th.

The Strangers Trilogy Director Teases Release Dates for Next Two Movies https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-strangers-trilogy-director-teases-release-dates-for-next-two-movies/ Mon, 06 May 2024 21:49:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh a5ca6620-e9cd-47e6-add4-cef190331071

Production on an entire trilogy of The Strangers reboot films commenced in an extended shoot, and while we know that The Strangers: Chapter 1 is set to hit theaters later this month, fans have been left to wonder about when we'll get official looks at or a release date for the next two chapters. Director Renny Harlin recently offered an update on possible release dates, teasing that Chapter 2 could be released in time for Halloween while the third entry would likely be unleashed early next year. The reception the first film earns will likely have at least some impact on how to release the next two chapters, in that if it is received poorly, studio Lionsgate might be more interested in rushing out subsequent chapters to get the underwhelming outing over with. The Strangers: Chapter 1 is set to hit theaters on May 17th.

While speaking with Variety, Harlin teased the next chapter could arrive as early as September or October, before then hinting the trilogy would conclude early next year.

The filmmaker also expressed what drew him to the project, noting that getting to spend three films with characters as opposed to merely remaking one movie is what inspired his excitement.

"If it had been a straight remake or a sequel, I wouldn't have done it at this point of my life," he says. "I have such respect for the original film and am somewhat intimidated by the quality of it. Simply doing a sequel or remake didn't appeal to me, but this was such an opportunity to have four and a half hours of a case study of victims of a violent crime and the perpetrators and what makes them tick and how it affects a person who goes through this."

The original 2008 The Strangers did earn the follow-up film The Strangers: Prey at Night in 2018, though the narratives were only loosely connected, in that both films featured masked maniacs.

The movie is described, "From master director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, The Exorcist: The Beginning) comes a new trilogy of terror. In Chapter I, Madelaine Petsch (TV's Riverdale) stars as a young woman starting a new life with her fianc?. Suddenly, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, they become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. What begins as a fight to stay alive becomes one woman's journey of courage and cunning in this horror series bridging three compelling films."

The Strangers: Chapter 1 is set to hit theaters on May 17th.

The Strangers Trilogy Could Get Massive, Extended Release as One Experience https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-strangers-reboot-trilogy-extended-directors-cut-three-movies/ Mon, 06 May 2024 21:16:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 72f2e405-828b-4821-8586-6325368e0cab

The 2008 horror movie The Strangers is being revived as a trilogy of films by director Renny Harlin, who filmed all three films during one extended production. In honor of the sprawling nature of the core storyline, the filmmaker recently confirmed that there have been talks of developing a massive, extended cut of the experience that will unite all three chapters of the nightmare, though these talks haven't been solidified. Given the evolving nature of the home video market, if that complete trilogy doesn't earn a theatrical release, the story could be unified for a home video opportunity. The Strangers: Chapter 1 is set to hit theaters on May 17th.

In Variety's preview of the new films, the outlet noted, "For fans who want the four-and-a-half-hour director's cut, there's a very real chance it could happen once the trilogy finishes," while Lionsgate's Geobert Abboud detailed that there is "some version of that we've discussed at a high level that we'd like to see at some point."

Harlin himself added, "It's in our heads. This is definitely what we want to do. We want to cut together the full arc. We know exactly how to do it, then we'll create a movie and see who are those diehard fans who will come to the movie theater for four and a half hours. I don't know if we need to have an intermission so people can get some food and go to the bathroom, but I definitely want to have that event and see if people take four and a half hours of dread and fear and terror and despair."

Production on the trilogy has been completed, though it's currently unknown when the next two chapters in the series could be released.

How to Watch Abigail on Digital https://comicbook.com/movies/news/how-to-watch-abigail-on-digital/ Mon, 06 May 2024 19:15:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 1826bf7e-c993-434f-bd0f-252e2a9f65e5

Abigail, Melissa Barrera's newest horror movie, is set to release on digital tomorrow, just two weeks after premiering in theaters on April 19th. The film, from Radio Silence (the filmmakers behind Scream and Ready Or Not), centers on a young girl who is kidnapped -- but her captors are in for a bad time when it turns out she's actually a vampire. The movie received generally positive reviews and earned around $35 million at the box office -- just a hair over its reported $28 million budget. That means it's probably not in the black just yet, but horror movies tend to do well on home release, and the popularity of Radio Silence certainly can't hurt in that department.

You'll be able to buy the movie as of 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT tonight on all the major video on demand platforms, including Apple, Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Google Play. No word yet on when it will be available for rental (sometimes that comes at the same time as the digital release, but other times it's a couple of weeks later). It's likely to stream free on Peacock at some point, but that hasn't been officially set yet, either.

In addition to Barrera (Scream franchise, In the Heights), Abigail stars Dan Stevens (Godzilla x Kong: The New EmpireGaslit, Legion), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Lisa Frankenstien), William Catlett (Black Lightning, True Story), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and Angus Cloud (Euphoria, North Hollywood) as the kidnappers and Alisha Weir (Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, Darklands) as Abigail.

The film is produced by William Sherak (Scream franchise, Ready or Not), Paul Neinstein (Scream franchise; executive producer, The Night Agent), and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Scream franchise) for Project X Entertainment, by Tripp Vinson (Ready or Not, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), and by Radio Silence's Chad Vilella (executive producer Ready or Not and Scream franchise). The executive producers are Ron Lynch and Macdara Kelleher.

Here's the official synopsis:

From Radio Silence -- the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett behind the terrifying modern horror hits Ready or Not, 2022's Scream, and last year's Scream VI -- comes a brash, blood-thirsty new vision of the vampire flick, written by Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground, Zombie Bashers) and Guy Busick (Scream franchise, Ready or Not).

Resident Evil 9 Rumor Reveals the Game's Setting https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/resident-evil-9-setting/ Mon, 06 May 2024 17:25:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 95e3dd1a-dd00-40d3-82e9-262fda398125

A rumor about the next mainline Resident Evil game has surfaced online. While previous rumors have suggested Capcom is hard at work another remake from the series' past, it sounds like Resident Evil 9 will come first. While there have been many rumors about Resident Evil 9's supposed existence, and word that it is aiming to release in January 2025, there haven't been many spilled details on the game. While we still don't have a plethora of details on the rumored survival-horror game, we do have word of its setting, or at least its supposed setting.

The rumor comes the way of Dusk Golem, a common source on Resident Evil scoops. In the past, they have proven reliable, but they have also been off the mark in the past as well. In other words, take everything here with a grain of salt. According to the insider, the game is set in a rural town on an island in South East Asia sea. The locale is said to be inspired specifically by Singapore.

If this sounds familiar, it's because it sounds similar to the most recent mainline entry Resident Evil, aka Resident Evil Village. While Resident Evil Village was in a locale inspired by Eastern Europe, it was also set in a small, rural town. If Resident Evil 4 and 5 are more your speed, you will enjoy this, but if you like the more urban environments of say Resident Evil 2, this could be a disappointment.

In Resident Evil Village, the setting was arguably a character itself. A lot of emphasis was placed on the setting, compared to some other games in the series, especially. The rumor doesn't say this, but it sounds like this may be the gameplan with Resident Evil 9 as well.

Unfortunately, this is the extent of the rumor. So far, it has not drawn Capcom out for any comment, and we don't expect this to change for a handful of reasons, however if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. What do you think of this rumored Resident Evil 9 setting? Where would you set the game if you were in charge?

Texas Chain Saw Massacre Reveals Several Fixes Currently in the Works https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/texas-chain-saw-massacre-fixes-tcm-game/ Mon, 06 May 2024 16:56:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps f8d248c2-3532-40f7-a580-14282636509c

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre publisher Gun Media has revealed several issues that are currently being looked at by the game's developers. The latest batch is broken into two sections: fixes that are currently under investigation, and those that still require more information. Some of these issues are more ambiguous than others, but the developers did offer some additional hints on Twitter and the game's official subreddit. The full list of issues that the team is looking to address can be found below:

Under Investigation:

  • Skill Tree Respec Issue
  • Nancy's Endurance
  • 'Tracker Tagged' Perk
  • 'Wait A Second' Perk
  • 'Back For Blood' Perk
  • Johnny's Movement

Needs More Info:

  • Matches Not Ending Correctly
  • Grandpa Perks Not Saving Between Matches

Gun Media has confirmed that Tracker Tagged isn't going anywhere, but the team is investigating feedback that it's not working as intended. Multiple players asked questions about the changes to Johnny's movement, as well. The only clarification provided is that the team has gotten "feedback surrounding potential unintentional experiences with his movement" that are now being investigated. It looks like this could be some kind of nerf for the character, as some believe that he's simply too fast when attacking, and it makes him overpowered. Of course, some Killer mains take issue with that assessment, and feel that he should remain as is. For now, fans will just have to wait and see what the investigation brings.

Upcoming Content

While The Texas Chain Saw Massacre developers are working on balance changes and bug fixes, many players are wondering about the status of actual new content. Virginia was added as a new playable Victim back in March, alongside the new Mill map. Killer mains have been patiently awaiting the arrival of the game's next villain. At this time, we don't know anything about them, or when they'll be added. The developers also announced a museum mode, which sounds similar to the "Virtual Cabin" from Friday the 13th: The Game. Like the new Killer, we have no idea when museum mode will arrive, but hopefully fans can expect to see this new content sooner, rather than later!

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Sale

Those looking to get into The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are in luck, as it's currently on sale for PC. The game is one of several that have been discounted as part of the Humble Spring Sale, and can be found on the platform for just $19.99. That's 50% off the standard price, and the deal will be good through Tuesday, May 21st, so there's still a lot of time left to take advantage. Readers interested in grabbing The Texas Chain Saw Massacre while it's on discount can learn more at Humble's official website right here.

The Crow Featurette Highlights the Monochromatic Look of the Comic Adaptation (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-crow-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-featurette-clip-behind-the-scenes-brandon-lee/ Mon, 06 May 2024 15:51:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 4831dd6f-8ba5-4e02-b237-2edb46f95e51

While there's much delight to be had in experiencing a bright, colorful, and whimsical comic book adaptation, this aesthetic is only appropriate for more lighthearted fare, which is exactly why director Alex Proyas embraced a much darker color scheme for his 1994 adaptation of James O'Barr's The Crow. In a new 4K Ultra HD release of the film, audiences can see the movie in a higher quality than ever before, with a new featurette about the moody look of the experience diving deeper into the motivations of the filmmaking team. You can check out the featurette above before The Crow lands on 4K Ultra HD on May 7th.

Per press release, "Originally released on May 13, 1994, The Crow entranced audiences and critics alike with its gothic aesthetic, breathtaking action, and Brandon Lee's soulful performance at the center of director Alex Proyas' revenge fantasy. A sleeper box office hit, the film developed a passionate cult following that spawned three sequels, a television series, a video game, toys, and novels. Based on the comic book saga of the same name by James O'Barr, The Crow delivers an action-packed thriller bursting with hypnotic style and dazzling visuals."

"Newly remastered, The Crow will be available nationally on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc with new and legacy bonus content and access to a Digital copy of the film. In addition, there will be a limited-edition SteelBook with a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc and access to a Digital copy of the film, featuring an o-sleeve with a cutout of a crow that lifts to reveal a portrait of Brandon Lee with his guitar.

"Both releases include a brand-new three-part documentary created for the 30th anniversary entitled 'Shadows & Pain: Designing The Crow.' The new piece is a fascinating deep dive with legendary production designer Alex McDowell, who discusses all aspects of designing the 1994 classic, as well as his experience working with visionary director Alex Proyas and the film's late star, Brandon Lee. Also, for the first time on disc, the releases include a conversation with the late Hollywood legend Edward R. Pressman who discussed his prolific career on the occasion of Sideshow Collectibles' release of a limited figure for The Crow."

New and legacy bonus content included on all three 4K Ultra HD releases is detailed below:

  • Shadows & Pain: Designing The Crow - NEW!
    • Angels All Fire: Birth of the Legend

Evil Dead Director Francis Galluppi Addresses His New Spinoff (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/horror/news/evil-dead-new-spinoff-update-reaction-francis-galluppi/ Mon, 06 May 2024 15:23:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 14cc6dd4-bd37-4fc8-8f0b-4829cd8ed4e7

News emerged earlier this year that an all-new Evil Dead spinoff was on the way from filmmaker S?bastien Vani?ek, and while this was exciting enough for fans of the franchise, last month saw the unexpected reveal that filmmaker Francis Galluppi was also developing an adventure for the series. In promotion of his new film The Last Stop in Yuma County, Galluppi addressed his love for the Evil Dead franchise and, while he avoided offering significant details about his new film, he expressed his love for all corners of the franchise and his enthusiasm for the new opportunity. The Last Stop in Yuma County hits theaters and Digital on May 10th.

"All I can really say is how much of a fan I am of Evil Dead and how much I really care about this franchise. It truly is one of the movies that made me want to make movies. I'm not just saying that," Galluppi confirmed with ComicBook. "I grew up watching Back to the Future and Indiana Jones and these huge spectacles and spent most of my life playing music because film, making movies seems so unattainable, and there's something about the original Evil Dead that you could just tell that [director] Sam [Raimi] and Bruce [Campbell] were out there having so much fun making the thing they wanted to make. And it was so innovative, and that's really the thing that inspired me to go pick up a camera and get my friends together and go out and make a horror short. My office is covered in Evil Dead stuff, so I have, it's just very exciting. I'm really excited. Everyone at Ghost House is just really, they're just great to work with."

As far as which entry might influence his own spinoff, he detailed, "I like them all. I'm dead serious. I think that it's a perfect ... they have not f-cked up any of the movies. They're all great, and I love them all for my own reasons. Obviously, Army of Darkness came out in a time, a perfect age for me, so I watched that a lot growing up, and Evil Dead had a huge impact on me when I was 18. And I love Fede [?lvarez's]. I love Lee [Cronin's]. They're all great. I really can't tell you if ... I feel like I always go back to the original Evil Dead. It's just a comfort movie for me. But with that said, I watch them all. Even the show. The show is great."

After the 2013 remake of Evil Dead failed to revive the franchise in a significant way, Raimi and Campbell, along with original producer Rob Tapert, developed the TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead, which continued the events of the original trilogy and ran for three seasons.

"When that show was on, it was like, that was the one show where we always had a f-cking weekly party at my house," Galluppi gushed. "And everyone came over and we got pizza, and we all were watching the new episode of Ash vs. Evil Dead, and I miss it."

The Last Stop in Yuma County is described, "While awaiting the next fuel truck at a middle-of-nowhere Arizona rest stop, a traveling young knife salesman is thrust into a high-stakes hostage situation by the arrival of two similarly stranded bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty--or cold, hard steel--to protect their bloodstained, ill-begotten fortune."

Stay tuned for updates on Galluppi's Evil Dead. The Last Stop in Yuma County hits theaters and Digital on May 10th.

New Interview With the Vampire Preview Teases Season 2 Conflicts https://comicbook.com/horror/news/new-interview-with-the-vampire-preview-teases-season-2-conflicts/ Sun, 05 May 2024 04:45:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 1a262f97-2b70-4830-a87b-fa924b0af996

Interview With the Vampire's second season debuts next week on AMC and ahead of the critically acclaimed series' return, the network has released a new, special preview of what fans can expect when the story -- and the interview -- picks back up. While fans were already expecting a complicated story as Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Claudia (Delainey Hayles) embark on their European quest to find others like them after killing their maker Lestat (Sam Reid), this new look at the season offers a bit more insight on how complicated things have become in both the past and the present. You can check the preview out for yourself below.

Of particular note in the preview is executive producer Mark Johnson's discussion of the Dubai timeline, which sees Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) now having to ask questions of not just Louis, but of the vampire Armand (Assad Zaman), who revealed himself at the end of Season 1.

"The interview of Interview With the Vampire becomes more important in Season 2," he says.

"The interview goes from playing chess against one person to playing 3D chess against two people," Bogosian added.

What Is Interview with the Vampire Season 2 About?

You can read AMC's official description of the second season of Interview With the Vampire here: "The interview continues in season two. In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Anderson) recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Picking up from the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 when Louis and teen fledgling Claudia (Hayles) conspired to kill the Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Reid), Louis tells of his adventures in Europe, a quest to discover Old World Vampires and the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, with Claudia. It is in Paris that Louis first meets the Vampire Armand (Assad Zaman). Their courtship and love affair will prove to have devastating consequences both in the past and in the future, and Molloy will probe to get to the truths buried within the memories.

Season two of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire is executive produced by award-winning producer Mark Johnson, creator and showrunner Rolin Jones, Mark Taylor, along with Christopher Rice and the late Anne Rice."

Jones previously teased what fans can expect in the upcoming season of the hit AMC series.

"I can tell you a couple things. The challenge is that in the second half of the book, there's less plot than there is in the first half of the book and there's so much internal dialogue," Jones revealed on AMC's blog. "There are long scenes of people having discussions. What we're finding that's really cool about that is even though it's not giving you a wealth of plot, what it does have are these really big emotional tentpoles. There are big plot moments that we're retaining from it, but there are these emotional moments too within our plot that might be slightly different than what's in the book. I'm feeling really, really excited about that."

Interview with the Vampire season 2 premieres May 12th on AMC and AMC+.

CLUE: Wednesday Brings the Netflix Favorite to Your Tabletop https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/clue-wednesday-brings-the-netflix-favorite-to-your-tabletop/ Sun, 05 May 2024 03:24:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar a39df69c-f0f9-42fe-93b7-6876ba9993dd

Addams Family fans have a whole new season of Netflix's Wednesday to look forward to, but it's going to be a minute before that hits screens. The good news is that you can experience the hit show in a tabletop classic, courtesy of The Op's CLUE: Wednesday. CLUE: Wednesday will have you playing as one of six students at Nevermore Academy as you try to figure out who will be Hyde's next victim, while also trying to nail down where Hyde will attack and what special item you need to bring him down. You'll move through known locations throughout the town and attempt to assemble the clues in this latest twist to the iconic franchise, and you can get an up-close look at the game in the images below.

CLUE: Wednesday gives you six different characters from Nevermore Academy to play as, including Eugene Ottinger, Ajax Petropolus, Enid Sinclair, Yoko Tanaka, Bianca Barclay, and of course Wednesday. Each character will have a unique ability as well. Enid for example can move to any part of the game board once per game, while Bianca can move twice once per game. Ajax can ask a question using a part of the game board you don't currently occupy. The proposed character is then moved to the part of the game board you name.

(Photo: The Op)

As with any CLUE game, you'll also have six custom weapons brought to life from the show, which include a Beehive, a Bow, Chains, Fencing Foil, Crackstone's Sword, and a Poison Syringe. As for locations, you'll move through areas within Nevermore like Ophelia Hall, Nightshade Library, and Crackstone's Tomb, as well as places outside of the school grounds like the coffee shop, the forest, Pilgrim World, and the police station. Like other games in the series, there are also secret passages that connect certain areas.

wednesday-clue-2.jpg
(Photo: The Op)

CLUE: Wednesday brings the classic CLUE framework and weaves in Netflix's latest hit for a fresh take on the franchise. The game accommodates 2 to 6 players and is now available on Amazon for $44.99, and you can find the official description for the game below.

"CLUE(R): Wednesday [$44.99 | Ages 8+ | 2-6 Players]: A dark mystery with terrible dangers is yours to solve in this spooky, modern take on the classic mystery game. With the dangerous Hyde on the loose, you'll play as students of Nevermore Academy, like Wednesday Addams and Ajax Petropolus. You've got to keep your wits about you as you determine WHO will be the Hyde's next victim, WHERE will the Hyde attack, and WHAT item was key in bringing him down!"

While fans will have to wait a bit for season 2, it isn't affecting the anticipation for the sophomore season. In an interview with BFI, Tim Burton spoke about how integral Jenna Ortega was in the show's success and how the character took off with fans.

"When I did Wednesday, the reason I loved it is I just related to the character so much," Burton explained. "But to me, it could not have been done without her. You can write it good, you can do whatever you want to do, but that kind of a character would need such clarity and purity and strength. A person has to have that. So for me, she basically made the show that way. She's one of the most aware, not only as an actress, but everything, around the camera, the set. She's a very special talent. And she's done a lot of horror movies, which I love too. That gave her a special place in my heart. 'Oh, you're doing another horror. Good.'"

Wednesday season 2 currently has no release date. CLUE Wednesday is available on Amazon now.

Dead by Daylight Developer Publishing New Horror Extraction Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dead-by-daylight-behaviour-interactive-blight-survival-publisher/ Sat, 04 May 2024 22:22:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 0085064d-fce1-44aa-871d-6d0bdaa25117

Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has signed on to publish Blight: Survival, a new game from Haenir Studio which was first revealed back in 2022. Billed as a "medieval co-operative extraction-lite" game, Blight: Survival takes place in an alternate 14th century timeline where players have to contend with humans and creatures alike to suppress an affliction known as the Blight and the infected beings it spawns. The game does not yet have a release date, but Behaviour Interactive and Haenir Studio suggested that those interested in the game will be hearing more about it hopefully soon now that the publishing deal has been announced.

If you haven't heard of Blight: Survival before, you're not alone. First revealed back in 2022 by Haenir Studio as the developer's first project, Blight: Survival has just one full video up on its YouTube channel to show off some of the PvE gameplay from the game's pre-alpha stage. That was shared around a year and a half ago with similarly sporadic posts made on the game's other socials, but now that Haenir Studio has teamed up with Behaviour Interactive, the small studio says the partnership and the publisher's resources "will be instrumental" in bringing Blight: Survival to the public.

"Teaming up with Behaviour Interactive signals the next major phase of development for Blight: Survival," said Haenir Studio co-founder Mads Christensen. "With Blight: Survival, we set out to deliver an ambitious and unique experience for players. Being able to utilize Behaviour's resources, expertise, and horror pedigree will be instrumental in bringing our vision to life. We're thrilled to kick off this journey together."

What Is Blight: Survival?

So, what do you actually do in Blight: Survival? Extraction games have emerged as one of the latest trends, but as Haenir Studios said, that's only part of what this game is. The game's Steam page that went live years ago after it was revealed in 2022 sets up the premise of why you're out in the 14th century swinging on creatures and other humans alike.

"The game takes place in the no man's land between two desperate kingdoms in a ceaseless war. Within this purgatory, a new strain of Blight has erupted from remains of the fallen. Fed and strengthened by the blood that has been spilled, it rapidly spreads - turning man into monster. As the people bleed - paralyzed by war - they have turned to you and your kin. Being the only ones willing, you've been tasked to venture forth and vanquish the all-consuming Blight."

Blight: Survival allows for 1-4 players in a match and only consists of PvE, so no need to worry about some high-level PvP player barging in on your experience. Ranged and melee weapons as well as different armors and talents are pickable, and like other extraction games, you can push the limits of your team to earn better rewards or call it quits when it suits you to get out alive with your spoils.

As for Dead by Daylight's creators, publishing this game is something new for Behaviour Interactive. The studio that's best known for that asymmetrical game has developed other titles in the past such as the Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall, Meet Your Maker, and Flippin Misfits and is working on a new game called The Casting of Frank Stone, but its more recent games have struggled to retain followings like Dead by Daylight has. Stephen Mulrooney, the executive vice president and chief technology officer of Behaviour Interactive, said this partnership is "the start of something new and exciting for Behaviour," so perhaps we'll see more games published by Behaviour Interactive in the future.

The Crow: Original Movie Returning to Theaters for 30th Anniversary Ahead of Reimagining https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-crow-theatrical-screenings-return-30th-anniversary-brandon-lee/ Fri, 03 May 2024 19:10:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 8979c864-87a5-4bdc-95d9-2aadd630433a

A new take on the James O'Barr graphic novel The Crow is coming to theaters later this year, but with the original take on the material from director Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the original movie is heading back to theaters later this month. The movie might not have made a major splash when it first hit theaters, but the decades since its debut have seen its following grow, especially due to how much different the adaptation is from any other comic book-inspired experience that has been released for audiences in recent years. The Crow will be returning to theaters on May 29th.

Cinemark describes the movie, "The modern-gothic original that entranced audiences and critics alike, The Crow tells the tale of a young musician brutally murdered alongside his beloved fianc?e, only to be risen from the grave by a mysterious crow. Seeking revenge, he battles a criminal underground that must answer for its crimes. Adapted from the comic book saga of the same name, this action-packed thriller from director Alex Proyas (Dark City) features hypnotic style, dazzling visuals, and a soulful performance by the late Brandon Lee. While The Crow is remembered for its gripping and emotional storytelling, its moody atmosphere, and its compelling soundtrack, it is sadly also remembered for being Lee's final film, as an on-set accident caused fatal injuries for the actor. The tragedy was so impactful that even star Ernie Hudson admits that he hasn't been able to bring himself to watch the completed film.

"For me, The Crow is Brandon Lee. I can't imagine ... The Crow is many different stories, let's hope they don't try to re-do him, that they do their own thing with it and take it in a different direction," the actor confirmed with ComicBook.com. "I haven't seen it, I haven't seen any of the other Crow [movies], because [of] what happened to Brandon."

The original The Crow earned three sequels, though they each followed all-new character being inhabited by the spirit of The Crow, while the upcoming adaptation will recreate the story of the original comic.

The original The Crow hits theaters on May 29th. The new adaptation of The Crow is coming to theaters on August 23rd.

Alien: Romulus Director Reveals the Aliens Deleted Scene That Inspired the Spinoff https://comicbook.com/horror/news/alien-romulus-origin-explained-aliens-deleted-scene-inspiration/ Fri, 03 May 2024 17:54:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh d9277f89-29c7-4dd6-8817-c2047c6d7b9a

The six films in the proper Alien franchise all take place in the same timeline, with the first four films all focusing on Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley and the two prequel films setting the stage for those adventures. With the upcoming Alien: Romulus, director Fede ?lvarez is pivoting away from the exploits of Ripley, though he recently described how it was a deleted scene from James Cameron's Aliens that ignited the events of the new film's storyline, with that scene showing a group of young colonists growing up on the Weyland-Yutani base that would become overrun by xenomorphs. This sequence is why ?lvarez wanted to see how young colonists would handle the monstrous threat in Alien: Romulus, which hits theaters on August 16th.

"My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn't been seen before, was to approach it from the angle of characters who are not professionals or scientists; they're not even adults," ?lvarez explained to Entertainment Weekly. "I liked this concept of putting people in the front seat of the story who are closer to what the audience is -- not that the audience is young, more that the audience is completely virgin to the realities of space. When the characters are professionals, they know more than you do. But when they're still in their early 20s, they don't know how to operate the f-cking airlock."

He continued, "All their parents probably worked on the same ship when they were kids, and that's how they got to know each other ... There's a lot of history between them because they're the only family they have. They truly act more like surrogate siblings; some of them even lived under the same roof. A lot of the big themes of the movie are about siblinghood and what does that mean? The Romulus of it all, and the bigger plot with Weyland-Yutani, is actually connected to that as well."

Especially in Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and the original Alien, humans are a bit distrustful of synthetic characters, while Bishop in Aliens became a major hero for human characters. Star Cailee Spaeny confirmed that synthetics are viewed a bit differently in Romulus, with a human character even embracing a synthetic as a sibling.

"In this one, Rain's brother is a synthetic," Spaeny detailed to the outlet. "She loves him like her brother, but there are difficulties growing up with a synthetic, and some of the challenges that she faces during the film are related. That relationship dynamic is really interesting to flip on its head; it was really fun to explore having a synthetic as a family member and the questions it poses. David Jonsson, who plays that character, was so brilliant and really nailed that performance."

The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie's Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), Aileen Wu. Fede ?lvarez (Evil Dead, Don't Breathe) directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don't Breathe 2) based on characters created by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett.

Alien: Romulus is produced by Ridley Scott (Napoleon), who directed the original Alien and produced and directed the series' entries Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler), and Walter Hill (Alien), with Fede ?lvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (Charlie's Angels), Brent O'Connor (Bullet Train), and Tom Moran (Unstoppable) serving as executive producers.

Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16th.

Resident Evil 9 Reportedly Aiming for January 2025 Release https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/resident-evil-9-january-2025-release-date/ Fri, 03 May 2024 17:03:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 2716a158-e9c5-45d1-b05e-3c4f1f21902a

Resident Evil fans worried about the fate of Resident Evil 9 can rest a bit easier now that concerns about a delay "can be pushed aside," according to the Resident Evil insider who first shared word of those possible delays. Dusk Golem, a reputable source for Resident Evil news and Capcom updates overall, returning on Friday a week after first expressing concerns of a delay to walk back that claim and say that things are all good now. Even better for Resident Evil fans excited for the next installment after Resident Evil Village, it's expected that the next game in the series will be revealed soon with Resident Evil 9 supposedly targeting a January 2025 release date.

Dusk Golem shared a thread on Twitter regarding Resident Evil 9 that opened with the good news about the game being back on track following whatever snafu it encountered that caused worry it might be delayed. The insider put forward the January 2025 release window in the same tweet which they said was a date they'd only heard mentioned before, but it now seems more solidified.

"I have good news/rumors to deliver on Resident Evil 9," Dusk Golem said. "The possible delay I had heard murmurs about can be pushed aside. RE9 should be revealed pretty soon & release next year. If what I heard previously holds true, should be in January. It'll have had about 7 years in dev."

If the fact that the game has supposedly been in development for seven years stands out to you, you'd be correct in thinking that that's quite awhile. In a follow-up tweet, Dusk Golem reiterated previous statements by saying that this Resident Evil game has the biggest budget of the series and that it's been in development for longer than any other Resident Evil game prior to it. Resident Evil 9 was supposedly a game that could've been Resident Evil Village at some point before Village became the eighth mainline game and work on Resident Evil 9 continued.

"Just to explain something, RE9 started early dev in early 2018 as a possible RE8. Village has started dev as RE8, then became a spin-off title, then ultimately became RE8 again," Dusk Golem continued. "This game became RE9 ultimately, & yes, RE8 & RE9 were in dev at the same time. RE games are usually greenlit in batches & planned out for a few years to keep the series 'near annual.'"

Past rumors about Resident Evil 9 have alleged that it'll adopt a more open-world setup compared to other Resident Evil games. Capcom hasn't confirmed anything of the sort yet, but with the big summer gaming events coming up soon and publishers like Capcom becoming increasingly confident in hosting their own showcases, it hopefully won't be long before we learn more about Resident Evil 9.

New Life Writer/Director John Rosman Details How New Thriller Threads Needle in Mixing Genres https://comicbook.com/horror/news/new-life-director-john-rosman-interview-thriller/ Fri, 03 May 2024 16:00:00 +0000 Spencer Perry 14f39e38-bcde-406e-b936-6b65068177c3

Last year at the Fantasia International Film Festival, the horror-thriller film New Life premiered to rave reviews (including a 4 out of 5 review here at ComicBook.com). That was August of 2023, and the directorial debut from John Rosman is finally available publicly, arriving in theaters and on VOD across North America today thanks to Brainstorm Media. Ahead of the films release, ComicBook.com spoke with Rosman at length about the film, breaking down the development of it a modern chase thriller and how he managed to thread the very delicate needle that is New Life's wild twists and turns (spoilers will be marked!).

As of this writing, New Life has a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been wowing critics for months. You can read the full description for the film below along with the trailer.

New Life follows the story of a mysterious woman on the run (Hayley Erin) and the resourceful fixer assigned to bring her in (Sonya Walger). As their two stories inexorably link, the stakes of their pursuit rise to apocalyptic proportions.

New Life begins in medias res, with Hayley Erin (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists) as Jessica Murdock on the run from forces unknown and with a bloody face . Rosman revealed that this image is the seed that bloomed into the entire film, a specific detail that he's been toying with as the start of a story since college.

"All we see is that they need to escape town. And it's kind of process-y of how they do it and then the story unfolds of why they were escaping town, but it kind of becomes secondary to getting to know the character. And I always thought then that that was an interesting way into the story."

On locations and a quick run time

newlife-hq-stills-6.png

New Life is shot on location in Oregon, and the rural areas, small towns, and mountain ranges not only deliver a unique setting, but offered the filmmakers instant production value out of just pointing their camera at the right spots.

"The equation for small independent filmmaking is how can you create maximal vision on screen with a limited budget," Rosman said. "These are places that I knew and people on my crew knew. I'd been working in Oregon for about a decade. So creating a road movie can be really, really expensive, or you can be pretty thoughtful about it and get a lot of value on screen in creative ways. Using Oregon as a state and kind of our collective knowledge base to build from, I think was this thing that added a lot of value and a lot of character to our film, but also kind of fit in these guardrails we had in trying to make.

Rosman revealed that his initial cut of the movie was more in the neighborhood of 100 minutes, which feels like an eternity compared to the 84 minutes that the final cut sits at. Getting the film down to that runtime was important not only for Rosman as a film fan ("I love 90 minute films," he says), but also just making sure that the story itself was as tight as possible.

"This film, it has messages about humanity, but wins or loses by the fact that it's a thriller. And to me, a thriller needs to be pretty tight moving on, asking some questions, answering some questions, and then just propelling forward."

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT

Spoilers Follow!

newlife-filmstill-01513023-4096x1716.jpg

A major feat that New Life is able to pull off after this mid-point reveal is that the film immediately recontextualizes the entire first half. Though we assume Jessica was on the run for one thing, we find out her trip across the countryside actually has malevolent undertones, as it's revealed she's carrying a mutated strain of the Ebola virus. This immediately calls into question everything that Jessica has done up until that point and makes her mundane actions now carry sinister weight. For Rosman this came about just by finishing the script and looking for places where things could continue to be tied together with future drafts. The hardest part wasn't finding ways to create connectivity, but giving up the control and putting trust in the audience to pick up on its subtle storytelling cues.

"I think the real needle to thread was a lot of trust in the audience because it does open up and it opens up as a film that is kind of unexpected. And so it rewards people being patient. And I get it, watching a film right now in this age when there's infinite content could be hard. So it puts a lot of trust in the audience to just be patient and stick with it."

Pandemic influence

newlife-hq-stills-2-1.png

Rosman began writing New Life during the pandemic, which naturally influenced the film's narrative in a major way and eventually formed the ending that the film delivers.

"This was a little bit later in the pandemic actually before we were shooting the film. So I was really trying to crack the ending and I didn't really have a good ending. And I was on a family vacation and I got sick. It was a 24 hour cold, but everyone in my family was so paranoid looking at me and I would cough and I was coughing because I had allergies or something, and then they would look. And at the same time I was trying to think of all these elegant, big endings to the film. And then it was just a realistic idea, when is a cough just a cough anymore?"

"Before the pandemic, I wouldn't even thought twice about (someone coughing nearby), which is my ignorance, but we all have learned through the pandemic. And so I think that real simple idea really fused throughout. And then I wanted the passage of the disease or the virus to be things that are related to helping people out or sharing a meal, sharing a drink."

Just don't call 'em zombies

newlife-hq-stills-3.png

At that halfway point of New Life, when the switch is flipped and the horror really starts, the reveal that Jessica is carrying a deadly new strain of Ebola that has mutated comes to a head with the reveal of gnarly and nasty infected people that immediately attack Sonya Walger's Elsa. Just don't call them "zombies."

"We had a hard no Z rule on set," Rosman said with a laugh. "And I say that as someone who really, I do zombie movies... I think the genre has been really explored a lot, and there's maybe a little bit of fatigue around it, but I think it's a really great temple. But to me, it was more interesting to think about in the parameters of The Fly... I love the idea of that film of it being a really a love story between Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. And then the horror in it is like, Geena Davis watching this person she fell in love with slowly decay in front of her."

Best Movies That Change Genres Halfway Through

newlife-filmstill-01531204-4096x1716.jpg

Though New Life's chase/thriller elements in the first half of the film are some of its strongest storytelling, the movie pulls the rug out from under the viewer almost exactly halfway through and starts to wade into a new genre. Knowing what happens, Rosman revealed his favorite movies that follow the same trend, shifting genres halfway through.

"A huge inspiration in this film is Repulsion," the writer/director revealed. "I think my relationship to the main character in that film just really changes over time where you're really sympathetic to her. Something happened to her and she's kind of being left alone, she's isolated and it feels like the viewer, you're like, everyone just needs to leave her alone and let her be. And then the shoe drops and like, oh, this person's kind of insane.

Another major influence for New Life was David Lynch's Blue Velvet, where the journey of Kyle McLaughlin's Jeffrey Beaumont sends him down a depraved tunnel after what seems like an idyllic existence from the start.

"I feel like watching that in high school and getting the rug pulled under you after being in a lull of this seductive strange narrative, and it's like, boom," Rosman adds. "All the reality of his choices hit at that point has always stuck with, I think that's one of my favorite versions of that."

What's next?

Those as impressed by John Rosman's debut in New Life will be thankful to hear that he already has his eyes set on his next project, hoping to shoot at the end of this year or early in 2025.

"It's still a thriller, but it's about teenage kids searching and pushing the limits of the things they disagree with and kind of society. And so it's still playing with our relationship to technology, and then these kids are doing something where they're subverting it in a pretty scary way."

So not timely at all, we added.

"I know. Well, it's so timely. I need to fucking make this movie. But the funny thing about making movies is that they costs a lot of money, so as always a nut to crack."

New Life is now playing in theaters and on VOD.

Mike Flanagan in Talks to Take Over The Exorcist Franchise for Blumhouse https://comicbook.com/movies/news/mike-flanagan-exorcist-franchise-blumhouse/ Fri, 03 May 2024 02:59:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 88484802-8471-4fb1-aff8-43795d4cb217

One of the most iconic horror franchises of all time might be getting another relaunch. According to a new report from Jeff Sneider, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher creator Mike Flanagan is currently in talks to spearhead the next Exorcist movie, which is in the works at Blumhouse and Universal Pictures. While it was initially believed that Flanagan would be directing the second and third installments in the proposed trilogy already teased by Blumhouse, the report indicates that Flanagan is being brought in specifically to create his own story. This comes after last fall's release of David Gordon Green's The Exorcist: Believer, which underperformed at the box office and was met with a mixed critical response.

"My intention is just to start making things, and as those plans come together, if I find myself in that [The Exorcist: Deceiver] director's chair, I'd be thrilled," Green previously said of returning to the franchise. "But right now, I'm navigating it from a story perspective and looking at my realities of life as I pivot."

As the report outlines, this pivot would allow Universal and Blumhouse to deliver the two additional Exorcist movies that they originally signed up for, without necessarily being impacted by Believer's bad reception. The studios initially partnered together in 2021 on a $400 million distribution deal on a new Exorcist trilogy, with the second and third installments potentially being exclusive to Universal's Peacock streaming service.

What Is The Exorcist: Believer About?

In The Exorcist: Believer, since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, see out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like this before: Chris MacNeil. The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid's Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela's neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela's friend.

"Well, it's fun. We had a road map that thought, 'You know, if the world will embrace what we're making here, then we'll keep it going,'" Green previously told ComicBook.com of the prospect of a sequel. "So we have a nice road map, and then once we got into production, the movie took on a life of its own, and we took some detours on that road. But I'm excited that if this movie is well received and we can keep them cranking, we got some new avenues to explore."

The Pope's Exorcist Sequel Confirmed by Producer https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-popes-exorcist-sequel-confirmed-producer-russell-crowe/ Thu, 02 May 2024 03:45:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 38647484-8592-41cf-93bd-f299313ea952

The world of The Pope's Exorcist is about to get a little bigger. The 2023 sleeper horror hit starring Russell Crowe has already amassed a dedicated fanbase, all of whom have been clamoring for The Pope's Exorcist to get a sequel. A follow-up film was in the works after the first entry left theaters, but some changes at Screen Gems have seemingly kept things from moving forward. Now, thankfully, that is changing. A new Pope's Exorcist is on the way.

Producer Jeff Katz took to social media on Wednesday to tell all of the fans of The Pope's Exorcist that their patience has paid off. He informed his followers that he officially received the call to move forward with the next film in the franchise.

"Amorth Nation -- I just got the call. IT'S OFFICIALLY HAPPENING," Katz wrote in the post. "Thank you to the amazing [The Pope's Exorcist] fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta -- get ready to ride."

In a reply to a fan suggestion about the upcoming sequel's title, Katz revealed a hope for the franchise to keep the same naming system as the Planet of the Apes films.

"I personally want to go Planet of the Apes with it so you would get stuff like Pray for the Pope's Exorcist or Heaven Help the Pope's Exorcist and the like," the producer wrote. "But that's just me."

Earlier this year, Crowe himself addressed the possibility of more Pope's Exorcist films. In fact, he went as far as to say there was a trilogy planned for the franchise if they were able to continue making them.

"Well that's in discussion at the moment," Crowe told The Six O'Clock Show. "The producers originally got the kick off from the studio not just for one sequel but for two. But there's been a change of studio heads at the moment, so that's going around in a few circles. But very definitely, man. We set that character up that you could take him out and put him into a lot of different circumstances. And remember, the man that's based on, Gabriele Amorth, he wrote 12 books. So we have more than enough source material to do one or two more of those films. But that probably won't be until next year."

Chucky: Brad Dourif and Fiona Dourif Talk Their First Ever Scene Together in Season 3 Finale https://comicbook.com/horror/news/chucky-brad-dourif-fiona-dourif-first-ever-scene-together-season-3-finale/ Thu, 02 May 2024 03:11:00 +0000 Spencer Perry f92fae7e-a268-419a-ad24-d289c5dadb39

Full spoilers for Chucky season 3 follow! A major new piece of lore was added to the Chucky franchise with Chucky season 3, the revelation of The Spirit Realm. In this alternate dimension, which has a thin veil directly back into our own, the spirits of the lost and damned wander about after they've been killed because they can't find peace in the afterlife. The season 3 finale of Chucky sees Jake Wheeler pull a Flatliners and stop his heart long enough to enter the spirit realm to find out key information from the now deceased Chucky. When he gets there however he finds, naturally, a host of Chuckys are waiting for him.

Ever since Chucky was able to divide his soul into pieces in Cult of Chucky, countless variants of the killer doll have been causing havoc around the country. Now however, most of them are dead, meaning a lot of them are in the Spirit Realm. This not only includes variants from Chucky season 2 like The Colonel and Hulk Chucky, but also the young Charles Lee Ray played by Fiona Dourif and the Older Charles Lee Ray spirit played by her father and Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif. The pair have an argument about what they should be doing with their lives, or rather, afterlives. Speaking with ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview, both Brad Dourif and Fiona Dourif opened up about this special moment for them which marked the first time that they've ever shared the screen in their entire acting careers.

"It was really celebratory," Fiona Dourif told us. "I felt like it was something I've wanted to do for a really long time It felt really special. I was nervous about it, and then when we actually started filming, it felt really familiar. It's almost like we fought before."

She continued, "I just really trust him and love him. We have a good relationship and it felt really lucky. This isn't lip service. That really was the dominant feeling. After we wrapped, I texted Don Mancini and was just like the Dourif family thanks you so much. He gave us this bonding. When was the last time an adult spent a month with their father on a kind of working vacation? I mean, it was a real gift, and I think we're really lucky to get that."

Brad Dourif echoed her sentiment, noting how their scene felt like something they'd done countless times before.

"When Fiona first started out, we would do auditions together," Brad said. "If I had an audition, she would come and do it with me. If she had an audition, I would do it with her. And so I was a little nervous about it too, but when we got, it just felt oddly familiar. It felt like, ah, I'm back in my living room."

"It was just familiar," Brad said when we asked if their personal dynamic brought anything to the scene that maybe the director didn't consider as far as staging. "I mean, it wasn't like we'd never shouted at each other."

"I was a difficult teenager," Fiona added in jest. "I would say that it came out in different ways. We were free enough that we could play with it, so I think that they didn't know what to do and nor did. It was a scene that we really got to take control of and play with. It was really fun."

Where is Chucky streaming?

The first two seasons of Chucky are available for streaming on two different platforms, both Peacock and Shudder. All sixteen episodes of the series, including both seasons 1 and 2, can be streamed on each of these services. Unlike previous seasons of Chucky however, wherein the entire season would have to premiere on cable before it began streaming, the new episodes of Chucky season 3 will be available for streaming the next day. After Chucky season 3's episodes air on SYFY and USA Network on Wednesdays, they'll be available to stream the one week later on Peacock.

Chucky Season 3 Finale Ends on Massive Cliffhanger Before Season 4 https://comicbook.com/horror/news/chucky-season-3-finale-massive-cliffhanger-season-4/ Thu, 02 May 2024 03:10:00 +0000 Spencer Perry ed0fc789-f285-49d2-9562-cf6a31b9d050

Full spoilers for Chucky season 3 follow! Another season of Chucky is in the books, and that means naturally another major wrinkle in the larger pantheon of Chucky's mythos has gone down. The penultimate episode of Chucky season 3 ended on a cliffhanger with Jake being given a drug to temporarily "die" and enter the Spirit Realm. Thanks to Chucky's years of splitting his soul there are countless versions of him sitting in the Spirit Realm, but Jake is after just one of them, Good Chucky. Jake hopes to find this variant so that he'll help him find Caroline, Lexy's sister who has been missing since the end of Chucky season 2.

When Jake finds Good Chucky he's very quickly able to get the location of Caroline out of him, with Good Chucky revealing that "She's with Grandfather Wendell," meaning Wendell Wilkins, the creator of the Good Guy doll. Jake then presents Good Chucky with a major question, if he kills himself inside the Spirit Realm, it will force the other Chuckys to cross over and end his reign of terror for good. This is of course when the series drops its first big twist, Good Chucky wasn't Good Chucky at all, just another Chucky that was deliberately stalling Jake, allowing Chucky to inhabit his body when he is woken up outside the Spirit Realm.

Elsewhere, away from The White House, as you might have guessed, Tiffany is able to escape her execution thanks to having brainwashed the guards on Death Row.

After Jake, Devon, and Lexy leave The White House they head for Wendell Wilkins's house where the trap is officially sprung and it's revealed that Chucky not only took over Jake's body but that Wendell Wilkins is also in on the scheme. The creator of the Good Guy Doll has also provided Chucky with something extra special, the original prototype doll for the Good Guy, which Chucky transfers his soul into.

Chucky - Season 3

Another guest makes their way to Wendell's house though, the recently escaped Tiffany Valentine in Jennifer Tilly's body. Chucky finally makes an honest woman out of her too by proposing marriage, with Wendell Wilkins revealing he still has the prototype for her doll as well. The pair return to their doll forms and run away in Tiffany Valentine's car, driven by Caroline, while making out in the backseat.

There's one last trick up creator Don Mancini's sleeve though, and it's that Chucky and Tiffany weren't the only ones that got put into doll bodies. Jake, Devon, and Lexi have all been put inside doll bodies, and they're locked in a cabinet in Wendell Wilkins's house. They're only discovered by Nica, who has tracked Tiffany to the house, who is also captured by Wilkins as the episode comes to a close.

What is Chucky season 4 about

So far, Chucky has not been renewed for a fourth season, but the series has set up another batch of episodes in a major way. Not only are Chucky and Tiffany back in their doll bodies and reunited, but they're both apparently eager to reunite with GG, their child from Seed of Chucky that was last seen in Chucky season 2 as well. Add on to that the fact that the show's three leads are ALSO in doll bodies and you have a very hilarious cliffhanger that Don Mancini will have to wiggle his way out of. Plus there's also the fact that the President of the United States is dead and that Chucky nuked the North Pole.

Chucky makes the case for a season 4 at the end of the season 3 finale, sitting at The Resolute Desk in the Oval Office as The White House burns to the ground, telling the audience: "Murder, mayhem, and malicious intent. These are the values I have always held dear, and it has been my honor to uphold these principles for lo these many years. Now tonight I'm proud to officially announce my candidacy for a fourth consecutive term...If yo have any doubts at all, I ask you to please consider the many accomplishments of my hugely successful third term."

Where is Chucky streaming?

When Disney's 1928 short Steamboat Willie entered public domain earlier this year, the rush began for horror films utilizing Mickey Mouse -- or at least that particular version of the character -- to enter production, offering a diabolical twist on the long-beloved character. The same thing happened when Winnie-the-Pooh entered public domain and now, the trend is going to the next level. On Wednesday, Mickey Vs. Winnie, a new horror pitting the two character against each other was announced. Production is currently underway in Michigan.

Mickey Vs. Winnie comes from Glenn Douglas Packard, an Emmy nominated choreographer turned filmmaker (Pitchfork) who will direct the project from an original script. He will also produce under his Untouchables Entertainment banner alongside creative partner Rachel Carter. Anthony Pernicka, founder of genre blog iHorror, is producing.

"Horror fans call for the thrill of witnessing icons like the new Aliens and Avengers sharing the screen," Packard said in a statement. "While licensing nightmares make such crossovers rare, Mickey Vs. Winnie serves as our tribute that thrilling fantasy."

Pernicka added, "We're thrilled to unveil this unique take to horror fans. The Mickey Mouse featured in our film is unlike any iteration audiences have encountered before. Our portrayal doesn't involve characters donning basic masks. Instead, we present deeply transformed, live-action horror renditions of these iconic figures, weaving together elements of innocence and malevolence. After experiencing the intense scenes we've crafted, you'll never look at Mickey the same way again."

Here's how Mickey Vs. Winnie is described: "In the 1920s, two convicts escape into a cursed forest only to be dragged and consumed into the depths of the dark forest's muddy heart. A century later, a group of thrill-seeking friends unknowingly venture into the same woods. Their Airbnb getaway takes a horrifying turn when the convicts mutate into twisted versions of childhood icons Mickey Mouse & Winnie-The-Pooh and emerge to terrorize them. A night of violence and gore erupts, as the group of friends battle against their now monstrous beloved childhood characters and fight to break free from the forest's grip. In a horrific spectacle, Mickey and Winnie clash, painting the woods in a gruesome tableau of blood--a chilling testament to the curse's insidious power."

Why Did Steamboat Willie Enter Public Domain?

The earliest versions of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse entered the public domain on January 1st thanks to current copyright law. Currently, that law states that characters and stories are protected for 95 years after publication with those characters becoming "free game" for interpretation on the 96th year after publication. That means that both Steamboat Willie and Plane Crazy, two animated shorts produced and released by Walt Disney in 1928, are both now in Public Domain.

This is far from the first time a beloved character has entered the public domain and quickly gotten the horror movie treatment. In 2022, Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain -- and soon after got its own horror film, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. That film has since gotten a sequel and a third film is on the way. As for Mickey, he has already gotten horror films made as well. Mickey's Mouse Trap and The Vanishing of S.S. Willie being just two of them.

New Alien: Romulus Photo Offers a Fresh Look at the Frightening Xenomorph https://comicbook.com/horror/news/alien-romulus-xenomorph-photo-new-image-tease/ Wed, 01 May 2024 21:24:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh a4a232bb-42ba-4da6-b8d1-1f4ffb29b870

The last two entries into the Alien franchise, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, began expanding the world of the series to explore a number of different types of terror, but the upcoming Alien: Romulus from director Fede ?lvarez will take the saga back to its roots, putting a new focus on the monstrous xenomorph. With the film set to hit theaters later this summer, USA Today unveiled a new look a the iconic creature, and while the photo doesn't give much insight into the plot of the spinoff, the image serves as a reminder of how disturbing the spinoff will be. You can check out the new photo below before Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16th.

(Photo: 20th Century Studios)

Alien: Romulus is produced by Ridley Scott (Napoleon), who directed the original Alien and produced and directed the series' entries Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler), and Walter Hill (Alien), with Fede ?lvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (Charlie's Angels), Brent O'Connor (Bullet Train), and Tom Moran (Unstoppable) serving as executive producers.

The franchise has earned a total of eight entries to date, which includes two crossover films with the Predator franchise. While the first four films all centered on Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, the two prequel films took place in that timeline though didn't directly connect to the events of Ripley's journey. ?lvarez previously expressed how his new film, which is set between Alien and Aliens, won't disrupt the franchise's mythology.

While speaking with Variety earlier this year, ?lvarez confirmed his new film takes place "20 years after the first one, and for me, I don't see it as upsetting the canon. It's something I take personal pleasure in doing, making sure that it all tracks and is all part of the big Alien franchise story -- not only in the story, but also when it comes to how to make it. I talked with Ridley [Scott] as a producer, and had long chats with James Cameron about it at the script level. After the movie was done, I showed it to them."

He continued, "Everybody's really important, from the VFX supervisor of Aliens and the guys that make the miniatures, and we hired a lot of them to work on the movie. Otherwise, it's hard to nail the style and the look and the vibe of a film like I wanted. That was the biggest pleasure of making this movie, to be able to do that whole process."

Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16th.

M3GAN 2.0 Adds Star Wars: Ahsoka Star https://comicbook.com/horror/news/m3gan-2-ivanna-sakhno-star-wars-ahsoka-star/ Wed, 01 May 2024 18:06:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 6e3fab3d-8db3-4794-9c4f-2a62a51f3c99

Horror fans fell in love with M3GAN last year when the story of an AI doll who goes rogue hit theaters. The movie earned a 93% critics score and a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a sequel was teased soon after the film was released. M3GAN 2.0 is scheduled to hit theaters next May, and some of the original cast is already set to return. Today, Deadline announced that the sequel has added Ivanna Sakhno who is best known for playing Shin Hati in Disney+'s Star Wars: Ahsoka.

Sakhno will be teaming up with original M3GAN stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw in an unknown role that's described as "a major part." M3GAN 2.0 is being written by Akela Cooper, who also penned the first installment, along with Gerard Johnstone, who directed M3GAN. James Wan, Jason Blum, and Williams are producing the new project. Johnstone and Mark Katchur are executive producing along with Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Wan's Atomic Monster banner. Blumhouse's Ryan Turek is also an expective producer while Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath from Divide/Conquer are also executive producing.

James Wan Says M3GAN Is "Coming Back in a Big Way"

"It's early yet, but M3GAN is coming back in a big way," Wan shared with Empire Magazine back in November. "The first film came just at the right time [when concerns about AI were mounting], and we're definitely leaning into that on the next one. We're exploring the AI universe even further."

What Is M3GAN About?

The original M3GAN is described as follows: "M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy company roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams, Get Out), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. As Gemma faces pressure at work from her boss (Ronny Chieng, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to deliver a finished version of M3GAN, she suddenly becomes the unprepared caretaker of her newly orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House). Gemma decides to pair the M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems -- a decision that will have unimaginable consequences."

Stay tuned for more updates about M3GAN 2.0.

Terrifier 3 Gets Earlier Release Date, First Look Image Released https://comicbook.com/horror/news/terrifier-3-release-date-change-new/ Wed, 01 May 2024 16:51:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw ebeb5a0e-c3e0-4539-8a62-fe9722678d49

Horror fans rejoice, the latest sequel in a cult-favorite franchise is now arriving in theaters earlier than expected!

Terrifier 3 was originally set to release just before Halloween, October 25th 2024; however, that release date has been moved up to October 11th, giving horror fans nearly three additional weeks to enjoy the Terrifier threequel before the spooky season gives way to the holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas. It also gives a more indie-level release like Terrifier 3 much more room to breathe (and earn); Paramount's Smile 2 is set for October 18th, and may have pulled attention (and dollars) away from Terrifier 3.

Terrifirer began humbly as a festival-circuit indie made for $55 thousand or less, screened between 2016 and 2017 at festivals, later earning $416,322 at the box office from a limited release in 2018. However, the franchise had a game-changing sequel with Terrfier 2; released in early October of 2022, the sequel made over $15 million at the box office, on a budget that included $250K generated from crowdfunding efforts.

"Terrifier 2's remarkable success was driven not only by the insatiable appetite for new and thrilling horror icons like Art the Clown but also by its unparalleled theatrical release and marketing, along with its unyielding spirit," Director Damien Leone said in a previous statement about Terrifier 3's release. "In a cinematic landscape where risk-taking is scarce, I will continue to push boundaries in Terrifier 3, and I can't wait for you to see what's in store for Art the Clown."

Terrifier 3 stars David Howard Thornton, who is once again reprising his role as Art the Clown. Lauren LaVera is reprising her role as Sienna, with co-stars including Samantha Scaffidi, Elliot Fullam, AEW star Chris Jericho and Daniel Roebuck, who is set to debut as Santa Claus. Franchise creator/writer/director/producer Damien Leone is once again at the helm, and series producer Phil Falcone is also back.

What Is Terrifier 3 About?

Leone has previously teased that "There are so many questions brought up in 'Part 2' that are not answered, and that was part of the design because I know I'm going into a 'Part 3,'" Leone said. "I pretty much have the entire treatment ready for ' Part 3,' but it's getting so big that it could potentially split into a ' Part 4' because I wouldn't want to make another 2 hour 20 minute movie. So we'll see."

Blood Hunt #1 Review: A Brutal Beginning For This Enticing Summer Event https://comicbook.com/comics/news/blood-hunt-1-review-marvel-comics-event/ Wed, 01 May 2024 14:30:00 +0000 Connor Casey 824cb074-efe3-46f2-ad56-f3e25825dc25 You know something that has always bugged me about Marvel Comics? That vampires not only exist, but that they're not much of an immediate threat. Think about it. Outside of Blade, Moon Knight and the occasional horror-adjacent superhero like Doctor Strange, vampires are generally considered a minor inconvenience in Marvel's scope. This would be like if the Marvel Zombies outbreak showed up in the 616 universe and was just "a thing" the Avengers would occasionally brush aside rather than an apocalyptic plague.

That's something writer Jed MacKay and the creative team behind Marvel's newest event, "Blood Hunt," seem to be keenly aware of. In Blood Hunt #1 a vampire cult manages to black out the sun, attack major cities with vampiric hordes and wipe out half of the current Avengers team with a kill squad comprised of six different shades of gory horror.

In short, this is a very fun comic book.

The events leading up to Blood Hunt are deeply rooted in Marvel Comics history--as far back as when Doctor Strange nearly wiped out all vampires back in the 1980s--but you can actually jump into this opening issue without any required reading. There are references to recent events in Moon Knight, Blade and even recent horror-themed mini-events like 2021's "Darkhold Saga" and last year's "Contest of Chaos," but they're all garnishes. The sun is blocked out in just two pages and four pages later the hordes have already mobilized. This issue grabs your attention from the jump.

I get the feeling Pepe Larraz's artwork will be a sticking point with the five issues of Blood Hunt. On the one hand, the art does outstanding work with character designs, particularly with the six members of The Bloodcoven. But the artwork also has a certain inky murkiness, making action scenes read like static with recognizable characters wandering through rather than teeth-gritting, blood-soaked brawls. It's not as noticeable when each of The Avengers are fighting off waves of nameless vampires, but certain moments in the Avengers vs. Bloodcoven fight are difficult to parse. It definitely fits the theme, but some of the intended effect wears off when you have to keep re-reading panels to understand what's happening.

Finally, there's a big twist at the end, though there's no sense in spoiling it here. Even though it's telegraphed fairly early on, the big reveal still hits its mark and is a bold choice for one of Marvel's most recognizable characters.

After only one issue, it's hard to say where Blood Hunt will land within the pantheon of superhero event comics. DC took its shot at "superheroes versus vampires" just a couple of years ago to mixed results and Marvel events have been hit or miss in recent years. But it's been quite a while since I've seen one start on such a high note and it'll have me hooked reading through the summer.

Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Review: Sexier, Darker, and More Enthralling Than Ever https://comicbook.com/horror/news/interview-with-the-vampire-season-2-review-amc/ Wed, 01 May 2024 07:00:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 4f5d72bd-e3ce-447f-a098-d5f3c8b75ef5

The first season of AMC's Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire achieved what many fans of the late author's most iconic work thought impossible; the series brought to life something that was simultaneously faithful to the characters and themes that generations of readers have come to love while also carving out something entirely new, taking viewers into unexpected corners of the lush and mysterious world of Lestat de Lioncourt and Louis du Pointe du Lac. But it wasn't just a visual and narrative feast that Season 1 delivered, as it also left fans with the greatest of mysteries as it concluded with a "and then what?" when Louis and Claudia fled New Orleans in search of others like themselves after having killed their maker Lestat --with the viewer aware that it wouldn't be quite that simple. With the stakes (and the drama) so high and so much of the story to unfold, Season 2 had a lot to live up to as the vampires headed into the European night -- and it's done exactly that. Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire pulls off a bit of theatrical magic, managing to be an even more authentic adaptation of an iconic story while still offering a fresh reinvention of Rice's work and delivering even further on the heartbreak and humanity that is the drama of the undead.

Season 2 of Interview With the Vampire picks up where one would expect it to, with Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Claudia (Delainey Hayles) in Europe on an existential quest: where did we come from? As series creators have said from the outset, the season follows roughly the second half of Rice's novel and for the six of eight episodes that were provided to critics for review, this remains true, albeit with some tweaks and changes that enhance and clarify the voyage. Viewers follow Claudia and Louis as they seek their own kind and simultaneously try to deal with (or not deal with) their own fractured relationship in the wake of their lives in New Orleans before, eventually, making their way to Paris where they encounter the Theatre de Vampires, the first true coven of vampires like them they have ever encountered. It is the arrival in Paris and the incorporation with the Theatre that begin to pull both Claudia and Louis on their own journeys of self, ones that pull them further from one another but also that create new dangers as new clashes with old.

The season also maintains its dual timeline storytelling established in Season 1, moving between Louis' memories as recounted to Daniel and the actual contemporary interview in which he is doing the recounting. This time around, however, the contemporary interview takes a bit more center stage. The end of Season 1 revealed that "Rashid" was actually the vampire Armand, and that memory -- specifically what Daniel remembers from the original interview in 1973 -- may not be what it seems. Season 2 leans into that a good bit more, creating a more pronounced secondary storyline that, in turn, drives how the recollection of Louis' past is itself brought to life. Between the two timelines and the two stories, a richer, albeit darker tale begins to emerge, one that gives the season a feel not unlike that of a thriller that holds the viewer on the edge of their seat wondering when the facade of civility holding everything together - in both timelines - is going to crack. To put it more simply, this season feels more directly like intellectual horror than last season and it's an excellent development.

In fact, there is a lot about Season 2 that simply works on a more elevated level than Season 1. The shifts to the canonical story are ambitious, but they are well-considered and well-crafted, particularly in the approach to Claudia and her time in Paris as well as Armand's incorporation into the mystery of 1973. There are also plenty of Easter eggs for fans of the overall The Vampire Chronicles and they are done in ways that feel organic and like genuine narrative layering and not like Easter eggs at all.

The biggest strength the season has going for it, however, is casting. Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson are again brilliant as Lestat and Louis, respectively, and Eric Bogosian's Daniel continues to in equal turns bring humor and a bit of a "bullsh-t check" to the often very purple prose-y vampires. But the real standouts are the newcomers. Delainey Hayles picks up the role of Claudia from Bailey Bass seamlessly and then carries the role even higher, delivering a performance that perfectly conveys the horror of being imprisoned in a forever childlike body as well as the devastation of all the cruelty and wrongs done to her. There is a humanity to her monstrousness that burns through the screen every time she is on it. In the books, Santiago is one of the characters readers absolutely love to hate but in the brilliant hands of Ben Daniels, you not only love to hate him but you come right back around to loving him and perhaps even agreeing with him. There's something malicious and charming about him that almost rivals Reid's Lestat. Additionally, Roxane Duran's Madeleine is possibly the best casting yet for a character that is relatively minor, but also very significant, and when paired in scenes with Hayles' Claudia, there is a heartbreak that defies the medium and cuts through to the very soul.

Even with strong storytelling that both relies on and respectfully reinvents canon and bolsters it with top-tier performances, there are a few small flaws in the overall season. As fans know, AMC is looking to build out an Immortal Universe based on Rice's works -- Mayfair Witches already exists, and more are in development -- and there are some moments in the season that, at least through Episode 6, that feel a bit forced, especially when one considers the power of the vampires involved. There is one particular character reveal that is, while very interesting and has potential, does feel slightly out of place, at least in the episodes we've seen thus far. There is also a hard shift as certain buried truths come to light that feels very abrupt and almost out of character -- and, again, a little forced and jagged considering the power and nature of the vampires involved. Either of those aspects almost feel as though they'd be better suited to being their own, unconnected story.

Even for those little falters, Season 2 of Interview With the Vampire, to borrow from theater in a sense, brings down the house. With top-notch performances, careful pacing, and just the right amount of narrative shifts and tweaks, the series manages to take a story that so many think they know and not only leans into the familiar but make it even more thrilling, more fascinating, and invites the viewer to question their own memory - while compelling you to ask for more.

Rating: 4 out of 5

Interview with the Vampire Season 2 premieres on AMC on May 12th.

Late Night With the Devil Sets Streaming Record for Shudder https://comicbook.com/horror/news/late-night-with-the-devil-shudder-streaming-record-viewers/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 20:50:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 94d705ca-35f4-4726-9742-b8ea9b28cf16

The David Dastmalchian-starring Late Night with the Devil premiered more than a year ago at the 2023 South by Southwest Film Festival and, thanks to screening at other film festivals throughout the year, it earned a tremendous amount of buzz among the horror community. It shouldn't be much of a surprise, then, that when the movie made its premiere on Shudder, even after a theatrical run, it was a massive hit on the streamer. Having just released on the platform earlier this year, Shudder confirmed that Late Night with the Devil was such a success that it set records for the horror-themed streamer in both views and in drawing fresh subscribers.

"Coming off a record-breaking theatrical run, we're thrilled to give Late Night its streaming debut on Shudder, as we continue to bring our passionate subscribers the very best in horror, with projects that represent the depth and breadth of this genre," Courtney Thomasma, EVP of streaming for AMC Networks, shared in a statement. "Working alongside our sister company IFC Films to bring this fantastic film to an even broader audience is another example of the great synergy of these two brands and how the horror genre continues to resonate and be embraced by fans."

"We knew Late Night with the Devil was audacious, frightening, and crowd-pleasing in equal measure, and we are ecstatic to see that so fully embraced by our existing and brand-new members," Sam Zimmerman, Shudder's vice president of programming, added. "Late Night's success across streaming and theatrical is a win for the kind of inventive, original genre that Shudder and IFC Films aim for. A huge congratulations to the Cairnes and the fantastic filmmaking team."

Per press release, "Shudder, AMC Networks' premium streaming service for horror, thrillers, and the supernatural, announced that IFC Films' Late Night with the Devil broke records with its April 19th streaming debut, marking the streamer's biggest opening weekend ever. The supernatural thriller, directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes and starring David Dastmalchian, became the most watched and biggest acquisition-driving film of all time on both Shudder and AMC+, surpassing the previous record holders in their first full week -- V/H/S/99 (up 85% in viewership) and When Evil Lurks (more than three times higher in acquisitions)."

"Late Night with the Devil follows Jack Delroy, host of a syndicated late-night talk show 'Night Owls' that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. It's October 31, 1977, a year after the tragic death of Jack's wife, and ratings have plummeted. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other, unaware that he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America.

"Late Night with the Devil's successful weekend on Shudder follows its record-breaking theatrical opening weekend on March 22, 2024, which established its title as IFC's largest opening weekend of all time. The film debuted to rave reviews from critics and praise for David Dastmalchian's haunting and committed performance, and is currently rated as Certified Fresh at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, where it also currently sits at #1 Best Horror Film of 2024."

Late Night with the Devil is now streaming on Shudder.

Fear Street: Prom Queen: Netflix Shares Behind-the-Scenes Look at New Sequel https://comicbook.com/horror/news/fear-street-prom-queen-behind-the-scenes-filming-video-announcement/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 19:41:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 4666a4db-b83e-4148-af9c-193d78c4d7d7

A new Fear Street movie was officially confirmed by Netflix last month and today sees the streamer offering the update that Fear Street: Prom Queen is officially in production. Much like how the previous trilogy of films based on the iconic R.L. Stine books series took audiences to other points in time, this new installment will take viewers back in time, with the setting of this new entry being 1988. The initial trilogy of films were largely shrouded in secrecy during production, with the streamer taking a different approach to what insight they offer fans about the experience, with the below video including a number of behind-the-scenes looks at the terror that is set to unfold.

"FEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN IS NOW IN PRODUCTION," Netflix captioned the video. "Welcome to Shadyside High. We're gonna have a killer time."

The new movie is described, "Welcome back to Shadyside. In this next installment of the blood-soaked Fear Street franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is underway and the school's wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider is unexpectedly nominated to the court, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of '88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night."

This new entry into the series is directed by Matt Palmer (Calibre) from a script by Palmer & Donald McLeary. Starring in the film are India Fowler (The Nevers, Insomnia), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket, The Idol), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls, Above the Shadows), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Cinnamon), Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Chris Klein (Sweet Magnolias, American Pie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range, Manhunt), and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From, Perry Mason).

The original trilogy of movies all came from director Leigh Janiak and, while each film was largely its own story that was set in its own time period, they were all filmed over the course of one extended production. Whether this new film will connect to its predecessors or if it will be setting up a new series is yet to be determined, though it would seem most likely that Prom Queen will be its own standalone story as opposed to setting up a long-running storyline.

This isn't the only Stine project on the horizon, as his Goosebumps TV series was renewed for a Season 2.

Stay tuned for updates on Fear Street: Prom Queen.

Tarot: Jacob Batalon Reveals They Shot Two Endings for New Movie https://comicbook.com/horror/news/tarot-horror-movie-alternate-ending-explained/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 18:44:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 0022f9df-f1f2-46e8-b949-1cac34b0af6e

The new horror movie Tarot is already building hype for its home release, thanks to MCU Spider-Man Trilogy star Jacob Batalon.

At the press junket for Tarot, Batalon revealed to ComicBook.com that the director of Tarot, Spenser Cohen, actually shot two endings to the film - one of which was ultimately left on the cutting room floor.

"We filmed a whole different thing for it [the ending], it's really funny. But I think the one that we put in the final piece is perfect, so..."

The reveal sprang from ComicBook.com interviewer Chris Killian comments (with NO SPOILERS) that the ending of Tarot is something unique to see in a horror movie. So, while fans may be fascinated to one day learn about the ending the filmmakers didn't use, they can be equally as intrigued about the ending of the theatrical cut they'll see when Tarot hits theaters on Friday.

What Is Tarot (2024) About?

(Photo: Sony Pictures)

When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings - never use someone else's deck - they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.

Tarot stars Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man Trilogy), Harriet Slater (Pennyworth), Avantika Vandanapu (Senior Year), Wolfgang Novogratz (The Last Summer), Olwen Fou?r? (The Northman), Larsen Thompson (Pearl), Adain Bradley, and Humnberly Gonz?lez.

Will Jacob Batalon Return For Spider-Man 4?

ned-leeds-spider-man-jacob-batalon-1246632.jpg

In the MCU Spider-Man "Home" Trilogy, Batalon played Ned Leeds, best friend of Tom Holland's Peter Parker, and Spider-Man official sidekick (or "Guy in the Chair"). Ned was there to watch Peter's back in all three films; however, in Spider-Man: No Way Home Ned (along with Zendaya's MJ) was caught in the spell Doctor Strange cast over Earth, erasing the reveal of Peter Parker's secret identity from the collective memory of the world.

As Holland's Spider-Man enters his next era in the MCU, it'll be interesting to see if the original supporting cast from his films are also brought back - or if Peter Parker/Spider-Man gets taken in a new direction, with a new supporting cast.

"I honestly don't know... what any future holds for any of them in that world [the MCUI]," Batalon told us. "I just feel like if things happen, they happen. I hope so. I definitely hope so. It's sad that he has no friends anymore."

Tarot will be in theaters on Friday.

Players can expect to see the following franchises represented in Funko Fusion: Back to the Future, Battlestar Galactica, Chucky, Five Nights at Freddy's, Hot Fuzz, Invincible, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, Masters of the Universe, M3GAN, The Mummy, Night Rider, Nope, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Shaun of the Dead, The Thing, and Umbrella Academy. In total, players can expect more than 60 playable characters spanning more than 20 different franchises.

In addition to those listed above, Freddy Funko, the company mascot, will be appearing in the game. Last but not least, those who pre-order Funko Fusion will receive The Walking Dead pack, which will include Rick Grimes and Michonne with both their traditional looks and two bonus outfits: Rick Grimes (leader) and Michonne (traveler). At this time, it's unclear if these options will be offered later as paid DLC, or if they'll remain exclusive to those that pre-order.

Can Funko Fusion Find an Audience?

The list features several horror franchises, and it seems like the game is going to capitalize on that in some unexpected ways. Interestingly enough, the trailer shows a significant amount of bloodshed, though it's pretty cartoonish given that these are Funko Pops. For fans of Universal films, Funko Fusion could end up being an unexpected game to watch out for; there's clearly a lot of love and attention being paid to the source material. It remains to be seen how all of this content will blend together, and if the actual gameplay will prove enjoyable. Regardless, it seems like the announcement is getting a lot of positive attention so far, with some viewers comparing it to the LEGO video games.

Funko Fusion might have been a better idea at the height of the Funko Pop craze, instead of at a time where millions of dollars worth of the vinyl toys are ending up in landfills. However, if Funko and 10:10 Games can deliver on this early excitement surrounding the game, it could lead to some increased interest in Funko Pops. In fact, Funko will be releasing special Funko Pops based on the game, so fans will have a chance at buying some of their favorite playable characters.

Are you excited to check out Funko Fusion when it releases? What do you think of the game's first trailer? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Chucky: Brad Dourif and Fiona Dourif Are Never Surprised to Come Back for More Chucky https://comicbook.com/horror/news/chucky-brad-dourif-and-fiona-dourif-never-surprised-more-chucky/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 00:35:00 +0000 Spencer Perry 2970ba57-8840-4ba4-a4d2-db82356c56e7

The Child's Play/Chucky franchise has become a family tradition now. Series star Brad Dourif has been with the character since the very beginning, and in 2014 his daughter Fiona joined the series with Curse of Chucky, the franchise's second lease on life that paved the way for the TV show. It's been ten years since that movie debuted and in that time Fiona and Brad have continued to play integral parts in the series, with Brad Dourif still voicing the role of Chucky throughout the films and the TV series and Fiona not only continuing to place Nica but also appearing as a young Charles Lee Ray when the plot called for it.

Speaking with ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview, we asked Brad Dourif and Fiona Dourif how their reaction has changed every time they've gotten the call that more Chucky is on the way. For Brad, the only time it was surprising was when Bride of Chucky happened in 1998, but since then, he always expects it.

"First three (movies) you kind of expected because the first one was a hit," Brad Dourif revealed. "And in those days, if you had a hit and it was horror, you did at least two more, so that wasn't a surprise. Then when the series kind of went away and then got revived...Did I ever think it would evolve into this? No, of course not."

"(I) was really nervous about (Curse of Chucky) because it is this thing that I've been connected to since I could form memories," Fiona Dourif added. "I mean, 1988, I was seven, so it was the coolest thing about me in high school. It's amazing to be able to be a part of the franchise and Chucky fans are really loyal and awesome and kind of the outcast in a cool way that I can relate to. So yeah, the whole thing felt like a gift. And Nica, keeps getting smaller and smaller. I feel like soon I'm going to be a head in a jar or a torso or something, but she's still got so much spunk. I love her. It's a really fun thing to be to make, and that people like it too is just this crazy added cherry on top. I'm always happy to go back and make another one."

The season 3 finale of Chucky airs Wednesday, May 1 at 10 PM ET on SYFY and USA Network.

I Saw The TV Glow Review: Are You Afraid of the Dark? https://comicbook.com/horror/news/i-saw-the-tv-glow-review-jane-schoenbrun-justice-smith-brigette-lundy-paine-a24/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 21:25:00 +0000 Evan Valentine e9f7e834-aeda-476a-a35a-43ae1c663b60

What if the television show that you remember growing up on turned out to be a little more real than you expected? This is the question that filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun presents with their latest horror film, I Saw the TV Glow, which grabs onto a twisted, skin-crawling '90s aesthetic and never lets go. In this moody, atmospheric campfire tale, Schoenbrun intricately weaves together a teenager's love with pop culture and a search for self-understanding that leaves viewers to question the world of the "Pink Opaque."

Justice Smith takes on the role of Owen, a young man who has always felt that there is "something wrong with him" that separates him from everyone else. In a chance encounter, Owen comes into contact with Maddy, a classmate two years his senior who is hooked on a young-adult spooky series known as The Pink Opaque. As Owen tries to come to terms with the direction of his life, Maddy disappears, returning ten years later to inform her friend that their love of the Nickelodeon-inspired series might be far more insidious than they had originally believed. What follows is Owen coming to grips with the horror of both accepting Maddy's fairy tale and the life he must live if he plays it safe, returning to normalcy.

Those expecting a flat-out horror film from I Saw the TV Glow might find themselves disappointed once the credits roll here, in that the film's commitment to Nickelodeon-style aesthetics, such as The Adventures of Pete And Pete and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, translates to its chills and thrills. The A24 film doesn't have much in the way of jump scares and/or slasher-style murders, but its surreal trappings and reality-bending story beats will stay locked into your head for days following the run time. What viewers get from the film instead of a straight-up horror might be far stronger, as Schoenbrun takes the chance to dive deep into the idea of self-acceptance and the true horror that comes from attempting to fit in with the crowd by pushing your true personality beneath the surface.

As a kid myself who grew up on a steady diet of SNICK (Nickelodeon's Saturday night programming block that housed more of its mature outings), I Saw the TV Glow immediately scratches that itch for those looking to revisit that time period. The director is able to create a series in The Pink Opaque that would easily fit right in with the likes of Clarissa Explains It All, Roundhouse, and The Secret World of Alex Mack. Schoenbrun is also able to inject some unsettling horror within it, as the main stars find themselves attempting to defeat a supernatural threat known as "Mr. Melancholy" from the Midnight Realm.

Justice Smith's Owen is the star of the show here in more ways than one, as it is the pinnacle performance for the young actor's resume. "I know something is wrong with me," Owen quotes early in the film and he's more than confident that the world at large feels the same way. Becoming hyper-fixated on The Pink Opaque offers Owen an outlet from the hum-drum normality of modern-day suburbia, but in doing so, begins to distort his reality. Smith's Owen captures the confusion and terror of Maddy's new reality, following her return to his life, as he speechlessly portrays the sheer horror of the choice being presented before him.

Brigette Lundy-Paine's Maddy follows closely behind Owen here, presenting a character struggling with the world's view of her sexuality and the best method of escaping a troubled household. When Maddy returns after so many years away, Lundy-Paine does an excellent job of selling where Maddy's been and what she has to do next. The ordeal sounds ludicrous on paper, but the young actor's sincerity sells the plight. In Owen and Maddy, I Saw the TV Glow expertly creates an analogy for LGBTQ+ issues that countless young people struggle with.

Hot off the heels of their freshman production, We're All Going to the World's Fair, Schoenbrun's sophomore film effortlessly captures the constraints of the suburbs, needling in unsettling imagery via mundane trappings such as chalk drawings on the sidewalk, fuzzy television reception, and Mr. Melancholy's lunar-faced henchmen looking to add human hearts to their collection. Well, that last part isn't exactly a staple of suburbia, but it feels more mundane when viewed through the lens of a '90s-era cable broadcast.

The biggest issue with I Saw the TV Glow is in its finale, which wraps a little too quickly rather than letting the terror of the scenario sink in. The film has a lot of unanswered questions, and rightfully so considering that there are many unanswered questions in most peoples' lives, but giving the final scenario a little more time to breathe would have ultimately benefitted the film.

I Saw the TV Glow might not be what you were expecting, but it's a film that feels tailor-made in paying homage to the creepy children's shows of yesteryear and blends them with some of the issues facing the youth of today. Cataloging the film as simply a horror movie almost does it a disservice, as it's one that is sure to be considered a cult classic for years to come.

Rating: 4 out of 5

I Saw the TV Glow opens in limited release on May 3rd and nationwide on May 17th.

  • Now, localization for all languages will be present

Virginia was added to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in late March, and there have been a number of problems with the character since. The biggest of these issues related to the character's skill tree. Those problems were resolved earlier in April, and it seems that even more issues will be fixed with tomorrow's update. Hopefully these problems will make the character operate exactly as intended, and players can feel like they're truly getting their money's worth. Of course, since the fix related to Nugget is actually less beneficial to the player, some Virginia mains might not be too happy!

Regardless, it's nice to see a steady stream of fixes and changes to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It might not be as exciting as new content like additional maps, modes, or characters, but hopefully we'll see more of that following the recent change in developers.

I Saw the TV Glow Filmmaker and Star Open Up About the Hypnotic Coming-of-Age Experience https://comicbook.com/horror/news/i-saw-the-tv-glow-interview-brigette-lundy-paine-jane-schoenbrun/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 16:50:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 7214e6bc-d967-40a3-a184-9005a6370739

Genre films have been a staple of the transitional state between being a kid and being an adult, as a number of genre projects use metaphorical storytelling to represent real-world fears. While it might not be a horror movie akin to The Conjuring or a release from Blumhouse Productions, writer/director Jane Schoenbrun's I Saw the TV Glow offers audiences a dream-like experience that not only evokes those feelings of adolescent intrigue in spooky stories, but also grapples with complex themes surrounding gender identity, depression, and loneliness. I Saw the TV Glow opens in limited release on May 3rd and nationwide on May 17th.

Brigette Lundy-Pain stars in the film as Maddy, a teenager whose biggest obsession in life is The Pink Opaque, a supernatural mystery series that serves as a surrogate for the real-world Are You Afraid of the Dark? or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When Maddy introduces Owen (Justice Smith) to The Pink Opaque, it becomes their only escape from the trauma of the real world, but when the series is unexpectedly cancelled, a mystery ignites that blurs the line between reality and fiction.

ComicBook.com caught up with Schoenbrun and Lundy-Paine to talk about the new film, the process of bringing it to life, and more.

i-saw-the-tv-glow-justice-smith-brigette-lundy-paine.jpg
(Photo: A24)

ComicBook.com: Brigette, when you were growing up, what was your Pink Opaque? What was your thing that was your secret handshake with friends, a world that you could immerse yourself in? Also, if you could go back and tell that person growing up who had their Pink Opaque, what advice would you give to them now as an adult?

Brigette Lundy-Paine: Well, it's funny I'm asked this question. I was not a super TV-obsessed kid, but I did, when I was in high school, I watched a couple of shows I loved a lot, and The O.C. was one of them. And I really was obsessed with Seth Cohen, Adam Brody's character.

I think if I was going to go back and talk to myself I'd say, "Turn this off and start being quiet more and thinking, and stop hanging out with all these f-cking losers." Just kidding. I loved my friends, but I also feel like I was really socially conformist, I think, in a way. When I was in high school, I was still super weird, but I was a cheerleader, and I was in leadership, and I think I was playing the social game in a way that, if I could tell my younger self, I'd just be like, "Stop this. You do not need to waste your time on this. Just take testosterone."

Jane, it is clear that this is such a personal film for you, and I know so many audiences are going to connect with it. When you were making this film and you're processing lots of different things, is the most therapeutic part of it the writing of the movie, the shooting of the movie, or releasing the movie and getting to engage with audiences and other viewers in its final form?

Jane Schoenbrun: Definitely not releasing the movie. That part, that's what we have therapy for.

It is wonderful to share the movie and to see people have emotional reactions to the movie, but being in public with it and the promotion aspect of it is ... I think I enjoy it in the sense that it's fun to get on a bunch of calls that'll be written up in public and do some sh-ttalking, but it's definitely, the creative process is over by that point. And so, really, promotion feels like a different thing.

I think, especially for a film this personal, a film that, as an artist, is trying to speak authentically to an experience, it's almost besides the point to try to then re-explain it. Being trans in public in 2024 is a very weird experience that I'll probably make the next trauma thing about, so definitely not that phase.

I think that the writing process is when I'm really digging. Because my creative process that I've found that works for me is one where the thing that I'm writing is exploring, not so much trying to explain, but almost investigating whatever it is that I'm investigating, or working through, or dealing with in my real life. So, for instance, this film was written in the immediate aftermath of beginning transition, as my entire world and everything that I thought of as my home was being called into question while I was also running towards a future that felt exciting to me in a way that I had never done before. The movie is really trying to just, not so much tell you how that feels, but to create an authentic expression from within that experience.

I think it's usually that part of the process that feels most purely, I don't know that I would say therapeutic, but where I am most deeply engaging with the personal in a way that feels transformative. When you make a movie, that's just fun. That's just getting to play, hopefully, in a sandbox with a lot of other cool weirdos. Then when you finish a movie, when you edit it, that's like you return to the first part of the process, but it's much more about imagining how to fine-tune this thing so that the people watching it can have the deepest possible experience with it.

One scene that made me somewhat furious was the scene where you get to see Sloppy Jane and King Woman play in a tiny dive bar and I was furious thinking that I won't get to see that happen anytime soon.

Schoenbrun: King Woman are playing Saint Vitus in a month or two, so come on out.

Well, I guess that leads into the soundtrack of the movie. What was the process of developing that? I know that you curated some playlists or some mix tapes for the artists that you spoke with about this film, and I wondered if those playlists or mix tapes had a common thread or common themes that popped up on everybody's?

Schoenbrun: No, it was very targeted to each individual artist. I think the common thread, if there was one, was maybe working with contemporary artists and pulling origins out of them or something, or trying to find unexpected sounds, usually from the 1990s because that was the era that we were calling to with the soundtrack that could be interesting paths for them to explore, if they wanted to, as artists.

So, for instance, Frances Quinlan from the band Hop Along, writes a new song on the soundtrack. I remember sending her a lot of very trip-hop-influenced stuff. A lot of Portishead or Garbage, because I loved her sound and I thought it would sound really interesting to detour down in that direction a little bit.

But then it was a completely different process when I was on the phone with Drab Majesty and talking about Echo & the Bunnymen's song from Sixteen Candles. I really did try to curate, in a handmade way for each artist, a direction that could be, if they wanted it, generative. I also really believe that the best style of curation, when you're working with a pool of artists, is to create the structure and maybe even the spirit of the thing, and then let them interact with you as much as they want. Because a lot of artists will just want to go and have their process and that's what's going to produce the most personal and best work, so it's always being very present and ready to roll up your sleeves and get involved, but also giving people a lot of space to make the cool things that they know how to make on their own.

In terms of curating and creating the soundtrack in general, it was there from the very beginning for me. It's a movie that, in my opinion, existed in this lineage that felt so indebted to not only music, but also the soundtrack as a piece of media or art. I wanted to make a banger soundtrack. I wanted to make a teen angst soundtrack that could stand toe-to-toe with the best of them, so it was something I pitched A24 on when we were initially pitching A24. I said to them, "I want to make the best soundtrack since Garden State." And, certainly, something that could be as generational a moment as the best soundtracks out there. Then it was just a matter of doing the incredibly fun work of choosing the artists and working with everyone to make the thing feel as -- to imbue the thing with not the energy of a promotional document, but with the love of a mix tape.

Brigette, there are so many very intimate conversations that your character is having with Justice's character, and then you have the powerful monologue toward the end of the movie. Was there a specific scene that you either looked forward to most in an "I can't wait to bring this scene to life because of how much it specifically speaks with me personally" way or even a scene that you just knew, "As long as I nail this encounter, everything else is going to be smooth sailing,"?

Lundy-Paine: Definitely the monologue, because I think that was the second day we filmed. It was right up at the top. But I was happy for that because that was the thing I'd spent the most time preparing and it was bursting out of me. It was right on the brim of my consciousness for so long. Even when we started just walking through, Emma Portner choreographed the movements of it, and when they were walking me through the movements I could already feel it bubbling up. I just wanted to lock it down, because I knew it was about to spill. I knew that the whole movie was going to be in the monologue. I could understand the rest of the arc if I could do that.

Once we finished that, most of it felt really easy. I think I was precious with some of the scenes, like the bleacher scene. I remember feeling really nervous that it wouldn't be right, because it felt like such a specific tone to have to strike. But yeah, I really trusted Jane and they were very generous with their reassurance through the process.

I Saw the TV Glow opens in limited release on May 3rd and nationwide on May 17th.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Developer "Very Confident About the Final Result" https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/silent-hill-2-remake-ps5-bloober-team-very-confident-final-result/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 13:08:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps b666fb85-7356-4dc6-a147-77b9c2151a52

There are a lot of people anxiously awaiting the remake of Silent Hill 2 on PlayStation 5. While Konami has released a couple of smaller Silent Hill related projects over the last year, the remake is easily the biggest, but also the one that has a lot of fans nervous. Rumors suggest that the game will be shipping sometime this year, and while that has not been confirmed by Bloober Team, it seems that development on the project is starting to wrap up. In the company's annual report (translated from Polish by Projekt Parasol), Bloober Team shared their excitement and confidence in the finished product.

"We do not hide it internally or externally - this is the most important test of our actions. We are not only excited, but at the same time very confident about the final result."

Why Fans are Worried About Silent Hill 2

The original Silent Hill 2 was released in 2001, and quickly built a reputation as one of the greatest horror video games of all-time. Given that, it's not surprising that Konami is planning a remake, but many fans have been worried about the fact that Bloober Team was given the task; the developer is fairly small, and this is the biggest project it has ever been associated with. Remaking a beloved game is a tall task for even the most seasoned developers, let alone a smaller studio that's only been around for 15 years. Fans have also voiced concern with some of the combat shown so far.

Bringing Silent Hill Back to its Former Greatness

Over the last 10 years, Silent Hill fans haven't had a whole lot of reasons to celebrate. The 2015 cancellation of Silent Hills was a gut punch for many fans; the game's "playable teaser" had a lot of people excited for the end product, only for Konami to swiftly cancel the whole thing. The series was effectively shelved following that move, and did not return until last year's Silent Hill: Ascension, which was less a game and more of an interactive experience. Reception to Ascension was mostly negative, though fans were a bit happier with Silent Hill: The Short Message, a small, free release made available on PS5 earlier this year.

Silent Hill fans have been desperately hoping for a significant return for the series. The Silent Hill 2 remake could completely change the franchise's fortunes, and bring in a whole new generation of players. If Bloober Team pulls off the Silent Hill 2 remake, it would be a massive win for the studio, and for PS5 owners. Fans can hardly be blamed for their concern, but hopefully they'll be as happy with the final result as Bloober Team claims to be.

Texas Chain Saw Massacre Reveals New Free Cosmetics https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/texas-chain-saw-massacre-new-free-cosmetics-ps5-xbox/ Sun, 28 Apr 2024 14:28:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps fa3282ce-ef00-4048-847f-7e6e8938afc1

On April 30th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre players on all platforms will be treated to some free in-game cosmetics. Naturally, there is a bit of a catch, as these cosmetics will only be unlocked once players reach level 99. Once they've been released, they'll automatically be applied to players once they reach that level, and those that have already hit level 99 will already have them once the update goes live on Tuesday. The new Blackout cosmetics offer sleek new black designs for all of the Killers and their would-be Victims, and Leatherface fans will also get a new all black chainsaw known as the Oil Slick.

An image of the Oil Slick chainsaw can be found below.

A New Outfit for Sissy

In addition to this free content, April 30th will also see the release of a new paid cosmetic for Sissy. The Wildflower Outfit will be priced at $2.99 and gives the character a new (albeit bloodstained) dress to put on. For Sissy mains that have been hoping for some new cosmetic options, this should help bolster what she has available, especially for anyone that still has a long way to go before reaching level 99.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Sale

For those that have yet to try The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the game is currently available for a discount price on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The sale started on April 23rd, and all Xbox users can get the game for 40% off, bringing it down to $23.99. There's just a little time left to take advantage, as the sale will only last through April 29th, so players that want to take advantage have a limited window to do so. Of course, it stands to reason that few Xbox users have actually bought The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, since it's been available on Game Pass since day one. While games are constantly being added and removed from the service, there have been no signs that the horror game is going anywhere in the near future.

However, Gun Media has sweetened the discount for Game Pass subscribers that decide to buy a digital copy. In addition to the 40% discount, Xbox Game Pass subscribers that purchase The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will also get two of the game's DLC characters for free. Danny and Nancy were both added after launch, and normally cost $9.99 each. For those that have been enjoying the game as part of their subscription, that's a really great incentive to finally buy the game, as it basically knocks it down to $4 plus tax. That way, if the game does end up getting removed from the service, fans can keep playing while also getting some extra DLC to enjoy.

Are you happy about these free cosmetics that are being offered? What do you think about this sale? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Call of Duty Fans Are Loving New Round-Based Zombies Game https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/call-of-duty-cod-zombies-sker-ritual/ Sat, 27 Apr 2024 23:57:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 2859b785-b751-4cb6-80b0-ce1ea9ff538b

There is a self-described "intense round-based zombie survival FPS" that can be played solo or co-op, and apparently it is pretty good. More than this, it is feeding Call of Duty: Zombies fans at a time Call of Duty isn't, as evident by the Steam user reviews for the game. The game is called Sker Ritual, and it has been out on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 since April 18. According to the Microsoft Store, it is one of the best-selling games on Xbox consoles right now. Meanwhile, the game also has a Very Positive user review rating over on Steam. On Metacritic the game only has a 54, but this doesn't seem to match up with what consumers think.

The game comes from Wales Interactive, a UK studio perhaps best known for its FMV games, though it does dabble in horror and horror-adjacent quite a bit. For example, it shipped Maid of Sker back in 2020, which this game is a spin-off of. How they went from survival-horror to round based zombies game, we don't know, but they did.

As noted, the game seems to be resonating with Call of Duty: Zombies fans in particular, a group of fans that have not been treated great by Call of Duty lately and who have next to no alternatives. Suffice to say, they appreciate the new release, even if it is rough around the edges.

"If Treyarch isn't gonna make a good round based zombies game for almost a decade, then I'll gladly give my support for a company that will," reads the literal top user review on Steam. "Imagine if Treyarch were allowed to make their own standalone zombies game," reads another user review.

As you can see via the trailer below, the game lacks a little polish and the bells and whistles that come with a AAA budget. However, if you're yearning for a round-based zombies game, it seems like it will scratch that itch.

"An intense, round-based, zombie horror shooter by indie developers at Wales Interactive," reads an official blurb about the game. "Play solo or up-to 4-players online, facing relentless waves of Quiet Ones whilst solving mysterious missions, uncovering Easter Eggs, upgrading steampunk weapons and obtaining Miracles - a vast network of Celtic God powers."

Knuckles Review

In his review of Knuckles, ComicBook.com's Marc Deschamps wrote:

Despite some small issues I had with the show, I found Knuckles to be a delightful new chapter in the ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe. What could have been a drawn out movie with a lower budget is instead an absurdly hilarious adventure that adds more depth to a pair of established characters. The music's great, and Adam Pally and Idris Elba might have better chemistry than we even saw between Ben Schwartz and James Marsden. There are bound to be some Sega fans disappointed that the show doesn't feature a bigger threat, or more of a presence from Sonic and friends. We should get both of those things in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 though, and I'm happy that we got something weird and unique to flesh out this universe. Knuckles is not going to be the Sega adaptation anyone is expecting, but it's a wild ride worth taking, especially for fans of the Sonic films.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Announced, First Teaser Trailer Revealed https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/alien-rogue-incursion-game-teaser-trailer/ Fri, 26 Apr 2024 21:12:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon b2951b81-8b57-4903-92fd-593aa83a759e

Amid other Alien-related announcements shared on Alien Day regarding the new Alien: Romulus movie and other parts of the franchise, a totally new project called Alien: Rogue Incursion was announced today as well. Shown off in a new teaser trailer Alien: Rogue Incursion will put Alien fans up close to the Xenomorphs in a much different way given that it's the first ever virtual reality game set within the Alien franchise. It's currently in development for the PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 3, and Steam VR devices, and it's scheduled to be released at some point during Holiday 2024.

Unfortunately for Alien fans, the first teaser trailer for Alien: Rogue Incursion doesn't show off much at all. It shows the silhouette of an armed individual on a planet with a massive alien towering over them, but nothing in terms of gameplay was shown. It's been just under a year since we got our last Alien game via Aliens: Dark Descent, but this teaser at least confirms that 20th Century Games is still exploring what can be done with the Alien series.

Alien games have been a mixed bag over the years with none of the more recent ones really ever living up to the intensity of Alien: Isolation, but a virtual reality game might just do the trick given how well the platform could lend itself to a franchise like this. Alien: Rogue Incursion is being made by Survios, a studio known for working pretty much exclusively on virtual reality games. Some of those have been original releases while others like The Walking Dead: Onslaught and Creed: Rise to Glory have been based off of licensed properties.

This is the first horror game that Survios has made unless you count The Walking Dead: Onslaught as part of that genre. Given that it's also the first official Alien VR game save for mods that turned games like Alien: Isolation into VR experiences, it'll be interesting to see how this game appeals to VR users and Alien fans alike. Survios has said little about the gameplay of Alien: Rogue Incursion, but we do know that it'll tell an original story as opposed to retelling an existing one. It's also worth pointing out that games in this series with "Alien" as the prefix as typically more horror-focused as opposed to "Aliens" which generally leans more towards action and firefights.

Other games like Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 sometimes get released for VR first and then get non-VR versions later, so while that may happen with this Alien: Rogue Incursion game at some point, there's no indication right now that that's in the plans.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Release Date Going to Be Revealed Soon https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/silent-hill-2-release-date-ps5-pc-reveal/ Fri, 26 Apr 2024 20:41:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer fa04d6d4-2ae6-49af-8f92-1f67d3e71513

The Silent Hill 2 Remake release date is going to be revealed soon, suggesting the rumored 2024 release is on the table. We know this because Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has revealed as much. For those that don't know, Bloober Team is the Polish game development studio making the game, with Konami, the owner of the franchise, funding it and publishing it. According to Babieno, Bloober Team is "in the final stages of work" on the remake, which also points to a 2024 release, likely around the holiday season.

"We are in the final stages of work on Sillent Hill 2. We expect that a release date and platforms on which the game will appear will be revealed soon," said the Bloober Team CEO.

What is odd here is the CEO mentions platforms, but the game has already been announced for PS5 and PC?.Does this indicate it is not a PS5 console exclusive? This seems unlikely, at least for launch. It is odd, but it's possible it's nothing. Whatever the case, it has given Xbox and Nintendo fans hope of one day playing this remake.

It is also worth noting there are substantial rumors of a PlayStation State of Play happening in May. These are just rumors, but the rumors are plentiful and from good sources. To this end, it has also been rumored Silent Hill 2 Remake will be among the games shown. If this is the case, this is no doubt what "soon" refers to.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is -- officially -- in development for PS5 and PC with a "TBA" release date. Below, you can read more about the upcoming horror game, and check out a trailer for it as well.

"Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her...'My name... is Maria,' the woman smiles. Her face, her voice... She's just like her. Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror-lauded as the best in the series-on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds."
