A little more decency, please (or: c'est le ton qui fait la musique as they say in France)
To be honest, I'm shocked. Not because a picture I uploaded in good faith was deleted, but because of how you reacted to it. First, you ask the rhetorical question of who is the photographer of a self-portrait taken in a mirror. Who, if not the person portrayed and named?
Then my question about the wiki commons compliant procedure was not answered. Finally, I was accused of copyright infringement because the page with the Wikipedia-compliant copyright information is no longer online - as if I had deleted it. Had I realised this, I would have saved the page as a PDF before and also had archive.org save it - neither of which, to my knowledge, is a prerequisite for citing a source.
Last but not least, I have been active on Wikipedia for 20 years, including as an administrator and author of thousands of undisputed contributions, and you give me just a ‘final warning’ before I will be banned? Yann, please take a deep breath before you start shooting sparrows with cannons. Or perhaps even better: talk and listen to the people. The vast majority of people don't come here with the malicious intention of breaking a rule. At least not those who have been here for years and contribute regularly. This is at least my experience from the small Wikipedias (<30K articles) where I am active as admin or user.
Sorry for the mediocre English, it's not my mother tongue. Bombo (talk) 23:39, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Bombo: Hi, It appears that you uploaded a file also uploaded a vandal, but it was actually a coincidence. Sorry about that. Please see also Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Synthxd. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:57, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
File:УПЛ. «Шахтар» — «Карпати» — 5-2 — 7646.jpg
Hi there. I'm facing the same issue as a month ago. An administrator deleted a properly licensed photo under Creative Commons. Could you restore it? Details here: User talk:Well very well#File:УПЛ. «Шахтар» — «Карпати» — 5-2 — 7646.jpg. Mitte27 (talk) 23:35, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
Images from archive.org images - Banknotes and coins
Yann,
Don't know how exactly work these media (images) copyrights but I'm trying to upload images from a web site that does not longer exist and it can only be checked in archive.org. This a government website of the Central Bank of Cuba and does not longer exist. The images are banknotes and coins of the Republic of Cuba. TheTreasuryBay (talk) 20:18, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- @TheTreasuryBay: It doesn't matter whether the website exists or not. I don't know anything about currency of Cuba, and there is no information on Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Cuba, so please ask on COM:VPC. Thanks, Yann (talk) 17:50, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
Hi, Yann. I hope you are well. User:Savydeal added a {{BollywoodHungama}} tag to this file along with a claim that you had verified its copyright status. I presume this latter claim is false, otherwise you would have so tagged it yourself.
But as regards the copyright status of the file itself, my understanding is that Bollywood Hungama freely licenses some of its images, but that these are explicitly marked as such. This image by contrast appeared on a page with the copyright notice "Copyright © 2025 Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. All Rights Reserved."
I thought it prudent to consult you before simply removing the tags and tagging it as a copyvio. --Rrburke (talk) 18:22, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't see any issue with this file. Please read the license. Unless otherwise stated, all pictures from /parties-and-events/ are OK. Yann (talk) 18:37, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello Yann,
J'espère que tout roule pour toi. ;)
Tisourcier (talk) 17:59, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
Duck test approved
But if you need a request for checkuser just let me know. ChickHicks21. Same behavior as Guishín Pastofrio. The first one was fired minutes ago from es:wp. Here in Commons, you may notice the coincidence in actions by looking at their user pages. Pay attention to the first edit summaries of both users when uploading an image. Rastamby (talk) 05:40, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- I apologize for forgetting to provide you with the the other username. Here you have his contributions..--Rastamby (talk) 13:45, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Deleted file
Hi Yann, I saw my upload Oyeleke.Ajiboye.jpg was deleted and I'm somewhat lost on what to do. Because I uploaded it using the free for all license. Could you point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate that. Thank you Michael.Ovie (talk) 21:32, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Michael.Ovie: Hi, Never reupload a deleted file. You posted an undeletion request, to which I answered. In this case, we need a formal written permission for a free license from the copyright holder, who is usually the photographer, not the subject. Please follow the procedure at COM:VRT. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:49, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Hi Yann, I saw my upload Typeduck.webp and TypeDuck Windows02.jpg were deleted and I'm somewhat lost on what to do. May I know what should I do in order to get permission to undelete the file. Do I have to get a formal permission. I would really appreciate that. Thank you. 網路洛克人 (talk) 23:15, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Why did you delete this?
File:Cropped existing Marion Wiesel.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marion_Wiesel&diff=prev&oldid=1276542025
The reason you gave does not hold water.
As indicated - it was a crop of a wikimedia photo. RalphPaisley (talk) 07:31, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, The source was incomplete or missing, the license was wrong, and the categories were wrong. I fixed all that. Yann (talk) 09:34, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. --RalphPaisley (talk) 07:33, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
Deletions of images
Hello, you've deleted several photos that I have received explicit permission to use. As this nonsensical system of having the holder separately go through some bureaucracy would not have been possible at the time, I uploaded the images with the intent of dealing with this at a later date, all at once. Furthermore you've carried out these deletions in a single day despite the very note you left stating that this process takes a week.
Thank you for your service in preventing the archiving of information. I will make sure to just lie about the copyright in the future as this seems to largely go ignored on Commons. MartinusK (talk) 12:11, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- @MartinusK: Hey, keep cool! You can't upload things and "intent of dealing with this at a later date". You have to care about the permission before you upload files here, and make sure than the copyright holder sends the permission on time. Please follow the procedure at COM:VRT. Thanks, Yann (talk) 12:23, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
Same image?
[1] seems to be the exact same image that was just deleted at File:Ramses II Grand Egyptian Museum.jpg File Moxy (talk) 01:36, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

Another sock
Hi Yann, the latest sock of your November block has turned up here. Best, CMD (talk) 08:00, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
Done Blocked. Yann (talk) 08:48, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
hello Yann,
How exactly this file is Commons:NETCOPYVIO? -- Geagea (talk) 11:54, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, It was wrongly tagged as such. Undeleted. Sorry. Yann (talk) 17:01, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Could you delete his most recent copyvio uploads as per his request? JayCubby (talk) 04:56, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
Done I also blocked this user, which was already blocked 3 times for copyvios. Yann (talk) 17:28, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. Why not simply block him from uploading files, instead of sitewide? JayCubby (talk) 19:03, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I might do that if they request it. Yann (talk) 19:33, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

24eeWikiUser
Thank you for your quick admin action on this sock case. I am more familiar with en-wiki policies, so forgive me if this is a dumb question on Commons, but will the block length (currently expiring in July) be extended for 24eeWikiUser as sockpuppeteer? Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:48, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Dclemens1971: Hi, The main account is usually not indefinitely blocked only for sockpuppetry, i.e. if there were useful edits previously. But it will be blocked again if more copyright violations are uploaded, and probably indefinitely since it was already blocked twice, and the previous block was already for 6 months. Yann (talk) 17:53, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! I know repeat sockmasters on en-wiki (see here) usually get indeffed, but I am not familiar with the Commons policy so wanted to check. Appreciate it! Dclemens1971 (talk) 17:58, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
